Nintendo unveiled fresh information about the upcoming release of Mario Kart World, scheduled for June 5th on the Switch 2. Priced at $79.99, this latest Direct presentation showcases new tracks, characters, vehicles, and additional features. Take a look below to see what’s in store.
The fresh set of courses encompasses Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Salt-Caked Speedway, Starview Heights, Boo Movie Theater, Toad’s Manufacturing Plant, Peach Beach Resort, and Wario’s Dockyard. Previous game titles’ courses are back with a modern twist, and races can take place both during daylight hours and at night.
As a racer diving into this game, I’ve noticed that the traditional vehicle customization is missing, but each ride comes with its own unique stats to offer a diverse racing experience. Interestingly, this variation extends to the drivers as well. Each page in the driver roster showcases a dozen contenders, and there are a total of 13 pages. This suggests that we’re looking at no less than 145 distinct drivers ready for some high-octane action on the tracks!
As I delved into the latest showcase of power-ups, my eyes lit up at the sight of fresh additions like the Coin Shell and Feather. The Ice Flower caught my attention too, offering a cool temporary freeze for opponents, while the Hammer, with its arc trajectory, seemed perfect for hurling hammers that lingered on the course briefly. The Mega Mushroom also piqued my interest, promising a size-enhancement that would flatten other players underfoot. Last but not least, Kamek’s transformative abilities were intriguing, hinting at the potential to metamorphose my adversaries.
The Grand Prix Cup is briefly featured (with extended gameplay), and Nintendo hints that completing all the cups will reveal Rainbow Road. On the other hand, Knockout Tour offers seven routes with numerous courses where players must compete against elimination. Lastly, accessibility features like Smart Steering, Auto Accelerate, and Tilt Controls are returning. Keep an eye out for more details soon.
