In the original The Outer Worlds game, while it’s not an open-world title, it does offer expansive areas designed to encourage taking on side quests and extensive exploration. With The Outer Worlds 2, it seems that Obsidian Entertainment has significantly emphasized this aspect of the gaming experience.
According to a recent sneak peek by IGN, the creators have shared that the upcoming installment will feature larger worlds, an enhancement reportedly driven by input from players themselves.
According to director Brandon Adler, one of our primary goals when embarking on The Outer Worlds 2 was creating large, open environments. This is a feature that players have expressed interest in, based on their feedback.
In the preview, it is noted that the game offers an enhanced feeling of spaciousness, featuring expansive areas that subtly draw players towards intriguing spots that may not always be related directly to the primary mission.
Thankfully, though, it sounds like these environments won’t just be bigger for the sake of it.
According to Adler, we emphasized it by creating wide, expansive views and invested considerable resources into designing captivating landmarks that would attract players and lead them away from the usual routes, making the landscape more intriguing.
It appears that the developer has taken great care to fill these regions with engaging activities, offering a variety of side missions, immersive storylines, treasures, and collectibles.
Furthermore, Obsidian aims to make each location distinct from the others, given that they are primarily alien landscapes.
In Adler’s design philosophy, each world is deliberately crafted to stand out distinctly from the others. This means that when you set foot on a new moon or location, you’ll find yourself in a completely unique landscape, not just a slight variation of what you’ve seen before.
In a new twist, the regions you’ll encounter ahead differ significantly from the moonscapes you left behind, and the one following will be distinctly unique too.
From what we’ve observed of The Outer Worlds 2 thus far, it seems as if it might be a genuine continuation, aiming to surpass its forerunner in (let’s hope) every aspect.
At a minimum, Obsidian’s remarks are bolstering their vision. This past week, they clearly demonstrated their dedication to immersive role-playing experiences.
