Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled a fresh gameplay trailer for Overwatch 2’s upcoming Season 16. This upcoming season promises to enrich this popular hero shooter with exciting additions such as the Stadium Mode, a newly introduced damage hero named Freja, a plethora of new cosmetic skins, and much more!
From the gameplay trailer we’ve provided, here’s a rundown of the key information regarding Overwatch 2: Season 16, set to launch on April 22, 2025.
Initially, we will see additional gameplay clips and specifics about Overwatch 2’s new Stadium Mode. In Stadium Mode, two teams face off in a best-of-7-rounds match, where they engage in various game types. During battle, they earn Stadium Cash, a currency that can be utilized to unlock powerful abilities and Perks. These enhancements significantly alter the playstyle of each Hero.
Players can now experience Overwatch from an entirely new vantage point, as if they were one of the heroes themselves!
The next major news shown off in the trailer is Freja, Overwatch 2’s newest Damage Hero.
Freja serves as a relentless tracker, pursuing her quarry using a swift-firing Revdraw Crossbow and a powerful skill known as the Bola Shot. This extraordinary ability has the unique power to gather numerous adversaries in a single location, making it easier for her comrades to eliminate them.
The third significant update coming up in the news is all about DokiWatch! – a fresh assortment of enchanting Magical-Girl cosmetic skins set to debut for Juno, D.Va, Freja, Brigette, Widowmaker, and Kiriko by the end of this season.
In Season 16, DokiWatch introduces a fresh Mythic Weapon Skin for Mercy called the Tech-infused Mercy’s Grace!
In Season 16, there are some fresh additions such as a Hero Ban mechanism in Competitive Mode that restricts specific Heroes from selection during games, new cosmetic items like Battle Pass and Shop skins to acquire, and the reappearance of Overwatch Classic which is based on the October 2020 Patch.
At the close of the trailer, there’s a sneak peek of Overwatch 2’s upcoming collaborative event – and it turns out this event is going to be a partnership between Overwatch 2 and Gundam Wing, as confirmed by Blizzard Entertainment.
Gundam Wing, a timeless classic from the Mobile Suit Gundam series, is the focus of this joint project as we mark the anime’s 30-year milestone.
On April 22, 2025, Overwatch 2’s Season 16 begins, and on April 29, 2025, we’ll also see the launch of its collaboration with Gundam Wing.
Overwatch 2 is going all out to retain its crown as the king of competitive Hero shooters
Since Marvel Rivals made its debut in gaming back in December 2024 and swiftly garnered more than 40 million players, Overwatch 2 has significantly intensified its efforts to keep pace with the rivalry.
Instead of feeling like a reboot, Overwatch 2 now appears as a true successor to the original Overwatch, thanks to its groundbreaking Perk system, exciting crossover skins, thrilling best-of-7-rounds Stadium Mode, and innovative third-person camera perspective. I’m absolutely delighted by these changes!
Nevertheless, is it sufficient for Overwatch 2 to compete against Marvel Rivals and claim the top spot among Hero Shooters on Xbox and PC?
Let’s find out together when Overwatch 2: Season 16 drops on April 22, 2025.
