Tragedy Strikes FSU Campus: Deadly Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 6 Hospitalized

Florida State University students and faculty are recovering following a scary incident on campus.

One individual lost their life, six others were admitted to hospitals, and another is currently under police detention, as a result of a shooting that occurred at Tallahassee’s campus on April 17th. This information was verified by a senior law enforcement officer who spoke with NBC News.

An individual representing Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Hospital confirmed to the news source that some individuals involved in an incident are receiving care at the hospital, but the specifics of their health status have not been made public.

1: At approximately 12 p.m., a warning was broadcasted across the university about an active shooting incident in the vicinity of the student union. Local police and the FBI are currently responding to the situation. In a campus-wide alert sent out by FSU X, individuals were instructed to secure themselves near all doors and windows, prepare for further safety measures, and avoid any contact with doors and windows.

After the shooting incident, Florida State University (one of Florida’s biggest educational institutions) declared that all academic classes and regular campus activities would be suspended for the rest of the day. Furthermore, all sports events scheduled over the weekend were also called off.

Florida State has decided to cancel all sports events held at home up until April 20th, as confirmed through X. We’ll provide updates on events planned for the following week once more information becomes available.

Daniella Streety, a student at Florida State University, recounted the terrifying incidents she observed following the shooting.

She informed NBC News that she witnessed some individuals carrying a student on what seemed like a stretcher, and they placed him in the middle of the street until an ambulance arrived. Nearby, there was a building approximately 50 feet from her window, where another student had been injured. They transported this student in a desk chair to the road for pickup by the ambulance.

Regrettably, it’s not the first instance of a deadly shooting happening at Florida State University. Back in 2014, a former student of the university carried out a shooting inside the library, wounding three individuals. Police eventually fatally intervened by shooting him.
