Since Netflix first appeared, fans couldn’t hide their excitement. The trailer didn’t merely focus on the political dynamics and societal disparity between the Moon and Earth; it hinted at thrilling action scenes that promised to astound audiences and surpass their anticipations.
As an observer, I’ve noticed that Moonrise, with its 18 episodes, is packed with numerous confrontations that live up to the show’s action-packed promise. Given the extensive cast, intricate narrative, and multiple conflicts at play, it’s no wonder there are so many fights. Now, let me weigh in on which battles from Moonrise Season 1 stand out the most.
Moonrise Episode 1: “The Night It All Began,” Episode 6: “Reunion”
The narrative begins with super-soldier Jack engaged in combat alongside Earth’s unified military force, the VC3, on a mission to track down terrorists responsible for destroying a space bridge. Their location? A Moon-bound train. The enemy is none other than Bob Skylum’s insurgent troops, who launch drones against them, reminiscent of Iron Man’s robotic armada. This triggers an intense skirmish, with Jack utilizing his invisibility cloak, acrobatically maneuvering like a nimble ninja from Naruto, and summoning weapons through sorcery.
The opening scene is smartly designed for the series kick-off. The battle initially ends in Episode 6, only to restart later, revealing more about the drones interacting with Jack’s team. By this point, viewers are already aware that they possess unique armor and engraving technology, which enables them to manufacture weapons similar to Tony Stark’s nanotechnology. It’s an explosive gunfight on the exterior of the train, while inside there’s a lot of martial arts action.
Moonrise Episode 7: “People of the Moon”
The Obst military group, who are against the protestors in the Sea of Tranquility area, aim to suppress the dissenters who are demonstrating against social inequality and their perceived oppression by Earth. Immediately upon firing, they targeted civilians.
In the conflict known as Moonrise, the Obst military group indiscriminately fires upon civilians, including men, women, and children. Those who resist are met with physical violence and aerial bombardment when Rin and his comrades are apprehended. This serves as a stark reminder of war’s brutal nature. The experience leaves Jack’s team shaken by the ruthless actions of this supposedly autonomous military unit, causing them to question the trustworthiness of their own superiors.
Moonrise Episode 3: “An Unexpected Face”
In the thrilling Episode 3 of “Moonrise” titled “An Unexpected Face,” I found myself joining Jack and VC3 on a daring infiltration mission at a hidden rebel outpost in lunar orbit. As the most agile operative, I soared through this moon station with an exhilarating blend of Superman’s graceful flight and Minato Namikaze’s lightning speed. My relentless assault on enemies left them sprawled across the landscape, and my moves were so swift it seemed as though I was teleporting from one spot to another. The breathtaking vantage points made me feel like I had a front-row seat to a 3D action movie!

In the end, Jack confronts the head of the uprising, Bob, in an intense showdown. It was quite a spectacle. Jack employs his martial arts skills along with his firearms and edged weapons, whereas Bob retaliates with powerful blasts from his cybernetic arm, reminiscent of Iron Man’s repulsor rays. The two evenly matched combatants neutralize each other. Georg steps in to rescue Jack, implying they should regroup and try again tomorrow.
Moonrise Episode 5: “Revelation”
In “Moonrise” Episode 5: “Revelation”, members of VC3 seek refuge within a chapel in Copernicus. Yet, Rhys (the team leader) unexpectedly encounters Phil, who has been masquerading as Bob through holographic tech. Jack intervenes to save his crush, Rhys, using his blades, flight abilities, and firearms. The VC3 ship, meanwhile, is under assault from above, indicating a chaotic situation.
As he floats and prepares to strike, it’s as if the game Moonrise could be incredibly exciting. The smooth, flowing first-person view is captivating. When Jack removes Bob’s mask and discovers Phil underneath, it brings to mind the character of Winter Soldier – they were like “brothers” before Jack arrived on Earth. They were trained together in a Moon lab for enhanced soldiers years ago, but then became separated. This revelation suggests that their rivalry will lead to even more intense fights than the one on this sacred ground.
Moonrise Episode 6: “Reunion”
Phil’s robots rely on SEED technology, which not only powers his arm and sentinels but also enables them to manufacture explosives seemingly out of thin air and disguise themselves as butterflies, raining attacks upon opponents. As the battle shifts outside, additional SEED drones emerge from the ground, escalating the fight with their presence.
1. Others swoop down, attacking relentlessly at Fortress VC3. It requires every soldier under Jack’s command to battle Phil and his robots. Once again, Jack’s team is forced to retreat. They seize a tank following Zowan’s transformation of their spaceship into the vehicle, causing chaos in the intense encounter. As they shoot down the drones, Inanna (Zowan’s sibling) disables and shuts down the robots. Despite the panic among VC3, it signals to Phil that VC3 are versatile, unforeseeable adversaries against his SEED gang.
2. A barrage of enemies descend upon VC3, attacking incessantly. Every single one of Jack’s soldiers must engage with Phil and his robots in combat. Forced to retreat once more, Jack’s team grabs a tank after Zowan transforms their spaceship into the vehicle on the fly, leaving the high-energy scene in turmoil. They proceed to shoot down the drones while Inanna (Zowan’s sister) disables and shuts down the robots. Despite VC3’s fear, it sends a message to Phil that VC3 are complex, unpredictable warriors against his SEED crew.
3. Enemies swoop in, attacking furiously at Fortress VC3. All of Jack’s soldiers must take part in the fight against Phil and his robots. With no choice but to retreat once more, Jack’s team snatches a tank following Zowan’s quick conversion of their spaceship into the vehicle. The scene becomes chaotic as they eliminate the drones while Inanna (Zowan’s sister) disables and shuts down the robots. Despite VC3’s panic, it sends Phil a message that VC3 are multi-faceted, unpredictable foes against his SEED team.
4. A horde of adversaries swoops down on Fortress VC3, attacking relentlessly. Every single one of Jack’s soldiers must join the battle against Phil and his robots. With no other option but to retreat once more, Jack’s team seizes a tank after Zowan swiftly transforms their spaceship into the vehicle. The scene descends into pandemonium as they annihilate the drones while Inanna (Zowan’s sibling) disables and shuts down the robots. Despite VC3’s fear, it sends Phil a message that VC3 are multifaceted, unpredictable opponents against his SEED squad.
5. A swarm of foes attacks Fortress VC3 incessantly. Every soldier under Jack’s command must engage with Phil and his robots in combat. Forced to retreat again, Jack’s team takes control of a tank following Zowan’s rapid conversion of their spaceship into the vehicle. The scene turns chaotic as they shoot down the drones while Inanna (Zowan’s sister) disables and shuts down the robots. Despite VC3’s panic, it signals to Phil that VC3 are complex, unpredictable adversaries against his SEED gang.
Moonrise Episode 10: “Unknown”
In the “Terminator” series, the T-1000 model adapts its shape using liquid metal. It can create sharp tools for slicing or stabbing people. In the storyline at Agarum City, one of Bob’s commanders named Salamandra demonstrates this ability by transforming her arm into a whip when confronted by Jack and his companions. Aware that she is similarly enhanced like Jack and another character in this narrative, Jack attempts to reach her first to negotiate peacefully. However, Salamandra employs her shape-shifting abilities not just for defense but also as a weapon, using it to wield her arm as a whip as well.
In an attempt to minimize harm and casualties, Jack finds himself under relentless attack by Salamandra, who is part of the Joint Army patrol. This combatant bears a striking resemblance to characters from the popular series Street Fighter, and her fighting style has significantly amplified the action in the anime Moonrise. Salamandra’s skill pushes Jack to his absolute limit. In a last-ditch effort, he employs a grappling gun and a drone. Eventually, she is apprehended once the massive L-Zone entity appears on the scene, leaving Jack with a deep sense of dread about potential future encounters.
Moonrise Episode 13: “Parting”
The L-Zone halts because of an unexpected VC capture. This woman, Mary, forms a connection with it. Jack understands that Mary, him, and Phil must unite to put an end to the conflict, so he escapes with them. Georg catches up to him, but instead, he activates his techno-karate moves. The confrontation escalates into a shootout and exchange of powerful blows, as Georg is essentially a metahuman equipped with Engrave technology.
In contrast, Jack doesn’t show hesitation. Philip steps in, creating an opportunity for Jack and Mary to flee. This act of deceit angers Georg. When Philip withdraws, it’s evident that Georg will be a fiercer adversary when they cross paths again. He is already swift, strong, and accurate. However, he aims to further refine his rage in the coming months.
Moonrise Episode 12: “Falling Shadows,” Episode 13: “Parting”
In Episodes 12 and 13 of “Moonrise,” Salamandra’s escape from prison is facilitated by General Pitter, who secretly works for the Joint Army. Once freed, Salamandra demonstrates her extraordinary abilities, using her arm to fend off numerous troops. She engages in a fierce battle with Zowan, deflecting bullets with her bulletproof hands. The sight of her utilizing her limbs as shields is truly awe-inspiring.
The VC3 are made aware that Salamandra is a formidable adversary. She shatters numerous bones and wreaks havoc on the base with her distinctive physique. She delivers karate chops to Duan and tosses Inanna about, before slipping away, suggesting she no longer wishes to take unnecessary lives. If truth be told, Salamandra exudes a more menacing, all-encompassing aura than Jack himself.
Moonrise Episode 14: “The Past and Reality,” Episode 15: “Expectations”
In the captivating world of “Moonrise,” I’ve often seen VC3 scampering away or receiving their due beating, even tucking their tails. But there’s a fierce fight sequence that unfolds across Episodes 14 and 15, revealing an even more formidable side to them. Osma, Georg, and Rhys are on a relentless pursuit of vengeance. They track down Salamandra’s ship, leaving a trail of crippled enemies and gunfire in their wake.
In this scene, I find myself witnessing an intense display of vengeance from an individual named Rhys. Instead of seeking understanding or peace, she lashes out with fury against Pitter and a traitor, taking their lives without remorse. The atmosphere is charged, much like a scene straight out of “Star Wars,” as battleships exchange fire all around us. This conflict has a grand scale to it. It reaches its climax in a high-speed chase, where Rhys is left behind by VC3. However, the antagonists are unaware that she is a Trojan horse, secretly carrying Sapientia, an AI meant to infiltrate SEED and ultimately place Earth under its control.
Moonrise Episode 17: “Domination,” Episode 18: “Carry On Your Will”
In the final chapters of Moonrise, we witness a chilling massacre – the scariest one in the entire anime. Sapientia, having corrupted, seizes control of the SEED drones and indiscriminately attacks Moon citizens. VC3 and Phil’s troops join forces to protect people and fight against the drones. This battle provides Novice Harbinger with an opportunity to display his villainous side by targeting tanks, culminating in a show of his Bane-like nature. Both Phil and Jack sustain injuries during this conflict as well. Eventually, Rhys and Georg realize their mistake and decide to help, recognizing they had sided incorrectly.
In a prolonged struggle, the stakes are high, yet it’s a fight worth engaging in. A wise and powerful entity, Sapientia, was manipulating the Moon and Earth populations for control. Eventually, Zowan managed to disconnect Sapientia’s influence, while Phil self-destructed along with Sapientia in an act reminiscent of a suicide bomber. The conclusion is harsh, but such is often the case in conflicts: casualties are suffered on both sides. Moonrise powerfully illustrates this grim truth through another masterful depiction of war.
