Episode 2 lived up to the high anticipation when the show was initially unveiled, offering a unique blend of striking animation, intense action, and clever perspective shifts that made for an immersive and intriguing viewing experience unlike any other anime. Yet, this episode didn’t just focus on action – it also delved into profound themes, much like the first episode which touched upon public perception, adding depth to the overall narrative.
The portrayal of characters is a significant motif in the series “To Be Hero X,”, particularly evident in Episode 2, “Moon.” This episode offers a more realistic and comprehensive depiction of what it means to be a hero in a world where admirers are enamored with superpowers. It highlights both the positive and negative impacts that such power can have on an individual, while exploring a serious conflict between the former protagonist, Nice, and his longtime adversary, Wreck.
To Be Hero X Episode 2, “Moon,” Delves Deeper Into Nice’s Backstory
In the thrilling continuation of my journey as Hero X, “Moon” – Episode 2 takes us on an incredible voyage into the enigmatic past of our teleporting comrade, Moon! This captivating tale is skillfully woven using a stunning hand-drawn 2D art style that brings to life her transformation from a humble heroine to the partner-in-crime of Nice.
As we delve deeper into her powers, we learn that her fame as a globetrotting travel blogger has granted her the unique ability to teleport to any place her fans desire! This fascinating aspect underscores the intriguing influence of the Trust Values and subtly foreshadows the chilling revelations yet to come.
One day, Lin Ling rescues Moon from danger, but fans’ desires for their union prove unfounded as Moon longs for freedom from the relationship yet is bound by contractual obligations to stay with Lin Ling. The company enforces this arrangement until they consent to marriage. A seemingly romantic tale takes a grim turn as we uncover the sinister manipulation of power in this world, which the initial love story merely masked.
In a twist of events, the couple intends to expand their union’s terms and devise an escape scheme involving a villain called Wreck. Wreck disrupts the wedding, making it appear as if Moon has perished, offering Nice a heartrending past. However, Wreck strays from the plan, focusing his assault on Nice instead, exposing their previous connection. The confrontation between them escalates into an intense fight, culminating in Wreck’s defeat. To maintain the illusion of Moon’s demise, her death is staged, leaving Lin Ling solitary and pondering over what he aims for in life now that he has become Nice.
How Was Moon’s Life Shackled by Nice?
Society and Heroism Trapped Moon And Stole Her Agency
Initially, I, an observer, found myself observing a travel blogger named Moon. She was free to roam and encounter various experiences, which held immense significance for her. However, the transition into becoming a hero stripped her of this liberty. In exchange for the ability to teleport, she was bound to her partner, Nice. If one were to assume that this wouldn’t be a problem given Moon’s feelings for Nice, her response upon learning about his demise suggests otherwise – it appears she held no genuine affection for him.
Instead, upon discovering that Nice is deceased, she becomes furious not at his death but at the fact they opted to replace him rather than granting her an exit from her contract. Given how advantageous it was for this world to eliminate Moon’s autonomy, it’s understandable that she would yearn for a way out of such a system. She finds herself relegated to nothing more than a prop for Nice, who either disregards her feelings or fails to earn her trust in the manner Lin Ling does.
From my perspective, I find myself, much like Moon, a strong individual caught in the orbit of another’s gravitational pull. It can be disheartening and resonates with many who find themselves entangled in relationships or situations beyond their control. The irony is stark when we consider that our beloved superheroes, far from being human, are mere objects and characters, tools for us to wield. Their powers, meant to protect the innocent, are at the mercy of our whims. It’s thought-provoking to ponder how we perceive these larger-than-life figures, even their villainous attacks, like that of Wreck, hinting at a madness that is somehow orchestrated by us.
Wrath and Nice Were Closer Than Just Friends
Wrath Was Destined for Villainhood and Solitude
In the episode, I witnessed the duo, Wreck and Nice, nurturing a common aspiration to be heroes. The anime briefly depicted them dancing, but it became apparent that the viewers perceived Nice as the hero while Wreck emerged as his adversary and foil. Instead of feeling resentful or whining, Wreck found contentment in being Nice’s rival and invested his time in escalating Nice’s Trust Value by playing the villain. Despite their contrasting roles, they spent a significant amount of time together, leading one to speculate that they might have shared a bond beyond friendship.
Several spectators swiftly noted that the bond between the two men was much deeper than a typical friendship. Moreover, Wreck’s reaction to Nice not responding seemed excessively emotional for just friends. Although not explicitly mentioned, the nature of their relationship suggests something more profound, which significantly alters their dynamic and even sheds new light on Nice’s suicide and the world depicted in To Be Hero X.

In this scenario, if Nice and Wreck were not only friends but also secretly in a romantic relationship, the story would still hold. The Treeman corporation chose not to disclose Nice’s identity change to Wreck due to his potential negative reaction or their lack of understanding of their close bond. This alteration affects the wedding context as well; instead of attempting to win Moon away from Nice, Wreck is now trying to win back Nice.
In a world where Nice and Wreck shared a secret romance, could it be that the burden of concealing his true feelings drove Nice to take his own life? His tragic demise remains a riddle, but it’s plausible that this deep-seated depression originated from the necessity of hiding this aspect of himself. This theory would also shed light on why Nice never felt drawn towards or interested in Moon. It’s chilling to consider that Nice might have succumbed to the erosion of his love for Wreck by the public adoration of Moon. Just contemplating such a scenario is enough to send shivers down one’s spine.
What Does Wreck and Moon Leaving Mean for Lin Ling?
Will Moon or Wreck Return in Future Episodes?
With Moon and Wreck departing, all remnants of Nice’s past are erased, implying that from this point forward, every encounter will be on Lin Ling. However, this also signifies that as he prepares to confront the transformed villain Enlighter, he will be doing so in isolation. This seclusion may influence Lin Ling in a manner similar to how it affected the old Nice, presenting him with the same critical decision.
In the progression of the anime, recurring topics will be explored not just from Nice’s point of view but also from the other characters’ perspectives. Nice critiques public opinion directly, so we might see E-Soul discussing religious aspects. Ghostblade could delve into themes like profound trauma that may impact others. To Be Hero X is shaping up to be more than a superhero series and is on its path to becoming one of the deepest.
