On their official social media platforms, the team behind “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” has recently shared a revised image from “Weekly Shonen Sunday.” Issues 41 and 42 of 2023 featured interconnected covers showcasing Frieren and Shinichi Kudo from “Case Closed.” In this promotional image, Frieren sweetly holds Conan who is placing a floral crown on her head. Both series, “Frieren” and “Case Closed,” are published in “Weekly Shonen Sunday,” making the collaboration between them natural. The 2023 issues show the interconnected covers with more space to advertise other content within the magazine, such as other manga.
Excitedly, I’ve been keeping up with the immaculate images of promos shared on Frieren’s social media accounts, which beautifully encapsulate the lasting charm of this beloved series. These pristine snapshots offer fans a closer look at the franchise’s enduring aesthetics. It seems that the recent Frieren and Conan image was re-shared to honor Case Closed’s ongoing 30th Anniversary celebration, with more exciting announcements, like a new video, planned for the anime’s 2026 anniversary.

Does the Frieren and Detective Conan Collab Make Sense?
The series “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” and “Case Closed” share a common publishing magazine but offer distinctly different narratives. “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is an adventure series with both solemn and playful undertones. It follows the story of an elven mage who, despite her longevity, walks among humans once more to rekindle relationships with her old companions and locate the final resting place for souls, allowing her a last conversation with one of her former party members.
Titled “Case Closed,” this series is known for its outlandish and comedic style, featuring a brilliant teen detective who finds himself in the form of a young boy after an accident. As a kid detective, he tackles bizarre mysteries using his sharp intellect and deductive skills. This long-running manga has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday since 1994, making it one of the longest-lasting series on the stands. In Japan, it’s a highly popular franchise; the 2024 film, “Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram,” garnered over 100 million USD at the box office, setting the record for the highest-grossing Japanese domestic film of that year. A new movie titled “Detective Conan: One-Eyed” is set to debut on April 18th.
In the whimsical world of Case Closed, it’s challenging to visualize Detective Conan coexisting within the universe of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Although Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End offers a fair share of humor and eccentricities, particularly highlighting Frieren’s stoic demeanor, its narrative fundamentals differ significantly from those in Case Closed. Yet, the depiction of Conan and Frieren together is an appealing artwork that captures the essence of both characters admirably. Conan offering flowers to Frieren reflects his kind-hearted nature, while her puzzled, almost expressionless face underscores how she remains oblivious to human emotions.
Could it be that the next Case Closed movie will venture into the world of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End? It seems far-fetched, I know, but let’s not rule it out just yet! After all, Gosho Aoyama, the genius mind behind Case Closed, has dabbled in crossovers before with Detective Conan and even Lupin III. So, merging another Weekly Shonen Sunday series doesn’t seem quite so extraordinary anymore, does it?
