Alright…let’s talk about the new Harry Potter series.
To start off, let me make it clear: If you’ve ever interacted with me, you’d be aware of my deep-rooted affection for Harry Potter. It’s not just a casual claim for attention; I genuinely believe that I am the most ardent Harry Potter fan around. And if I lived by myself, I’d probably have an entire bookshelf filled with nothing but my beloved series!
Although the writer of this popular series has faced controversy at times, it’s always held a special place in my heart for the nostalgia it evokes and the sense of validity it provided me throughout the years. It was the first book series I ever read, and it remains deeply meaningful to me. It sparked my passion for fantasy entertainment, such as TV shows and movies, and even fueled my dream to write a fantasy novel someday.
However, when it comes to popular franchises such as Harry Potter, which boasts enthusiastic fans like myself who can’t resist re-watching the movies multiple times, it eventually signals the arrival of a fresh interpretation.
Recently, information about the new actors joining the HBO’s “Harry Potter” series has been revealed. Although it isn’t the primary trio, these are some well-known adult characters from the series, but I must express a concern.
However, it’s not with the cast member that you think. Let’s get into it.
I Actually Don’t Mind Snape’s Casting One Bit
According to the title, I must admit that I was completely fine with Alan Rickman playing Snape. To be honest, it didn’t make much of a difference to me either way.
There might be individuals who find my idea a bit far-fetched initially, but allow me to explain in brief. Firstly, Paapa Essiedu is an exceptionally gifted British actor, as evidenced by his impressive body of work both on stage and in critically acclaimed films and TV shows such as “I May Destroy You,” “Men,” and “The Outrun.” Given his talent, it’s only natural that I would have confidence in him taking on this role.
Physical appearances are irrelevant when it comes to Snape. What truly matters is that he shares the same storyline as in the Harry Potter series – his love for Lily Potter, his role as a double agent for both the Order and Voldemort, and his ongoing antagonism towards Harry. His appearance holds no significance in defining his character.
Are they unique within the series? Absolutely, but being different doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t evolve, as long as their core character traits remain consistent. frankly, I don’t mind how things turn out. Just by observing him, it’s evident he could convincingly portray a character similar to Snape.
Will he be like Alan Rickman’s Snape? No, of course not, but I can at least see it.

I’m Not A Huge Fan Of John Lithgow Playing Dumbledore
The actor I’ve got a problem with is John Lithgow, and frankly, I believe he wasn’t the ideal choice for the role of Dumbledore.
Dumbledore is an essential character in the Harry Potter universe; it’s a challenging role because Richard Harris and Michael Gambon have portrayed him with such skill and authenticity. However, I am confident that there are talented actors who could also bring this iconic character to life.
Lithgow is an iffy choice for me.
Let me clarify, the actor is absolutely exceptional. I’ve had the pleasure of watching numerous films and series he’s been in. My initial encounter with him was through the critically acclaimed Showtime series, “Dexter,” but his talent extends far beyond that role. He’s also graced the screens of productions like “The World According to Garp,” “Footloose,” “Interstellar,” “Late Night,” “Conclave,” “Perry Mason,” and “The Crown,” among many others.
I find it hard to imagine him playing Albus Dumbledore, as he doesn’t seem to possess the qualities of kindness, sweetness, power, and a hint of menace that are essential for that character. His past roles haven’t given me a glimpse of this kind of portrayal, which might be why I find it difficult to accept him in such a role.

He’s Also Not Even British
I also find Lithgow’s casting troubling. He’s not even British.
It’s not unprecedented for an American to adopt a British accent, and John Lithgow has certainly mastered this skill on numerous occasions. Now, it seems that many people believe he is actually British due to his proficiency in the accent.
However, it appears that every other cast member being announced is British, a trend that “Harry Potter” has consistently maintained by employing English actors for their roles due to the series’ UK setting. Lithgow, on the other hand, seems to be an exception in this case.
On television, it’s not uncommon to see American actors adopt British accents; for instance, Peter Dinklage from the renowned Game of Thrones series hails from New Jersey, but you wouldn’t guess it. However, it seems odd in the case of Harry Potter.

I Think There Were Also Several Other Great Options From England
Instead of just Lithgow, there are several English actors who could have convincingly portrayed Dumbledore, such as Liam Neeson, an Irish actor, or even Jared Harris, the son of Richard Harris, who also might have done well in the role.
We could’ve brought back HBO as the main platform and invited Sean Bean to reprise his role, this time as Dumbledore, another esteemed British actor.
I don’t know. There are just so many options out there, and yet they went with Lithgow.

I’m Still Excited For The Series, But A Little Wary
To clarify, just because John Lithgow is appearing in the show doesn’t mean I won’t be tuning in. On the contrary, I am absolutely going to watch it! In fact, I’ve already got my Harry Potter costume all planned out, complete with homemade butterbeer and pumpkin pasties at the ready.
On one hand, I’m excited, but on the other, I must confess a touch of apprehension. The fact that American actors are being considered for a UK-based series raises some questions about their plans for this updated version. Despite my deep affection for Harry Potter, I find myself treading carefully with this new show, keeping a watchful eye out.
HBO is known for producing excellent TV series, but this upcoming show has left a girl feeling anxious; let’s hope they can deliver. Now, I’m in the mood for another Harry Potter film extravaganza.
