Ahmed Best’s character, the Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq, is making a comeback to the Star Wars universe in an upcoming comic book titled “Star Wars: Jedi Knights“. This issue, set for release sometime in October, will find Kelleran teaming up with other Jedi. At this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Japan, during the Lucasfilm Publishing panel, it was announced that Kelleran Beq will feature in Star Wars: Jedi Knights #8. As for the details of the storyline, they are being kept secret for now, but the official Star Wars website hints that besides Kelleran Beq, the issue will introduce both familiar and less-known Jedi.
In the announcement, Lucasfilm revealed three different covers for the upcoming issue: two special versions depict Kelleran standing solo, each holding his green lightsaber, and a regular cover where Kelleran is shown alongside three other Jedi, one of whom is Yoda. Have a look at these covers in the space provided below:
In the past, the actor who played Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy made his debut as Kelleran Beq on the children’s game show “Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge”. This character functioned as a mentor for the young contestants, helping them with their Jedi training. Later, this same actor appeared in a notable cameo during Season 3 of “The Mandalorian”, where it was revealed that Kelleran Beq saved Grogu from the Jedi Temple during the events of “Revenge of the Sith”. However, his subsequent actions after saving Grogu remain unclear.
Kelleran Beq made an appearance in the comic series “Star Wars: Jedi Knights” issue #1, where he was seen as a vision to Obi-Wan. This comic book series takes place before the events of “The Phantom Menace,” giving readers a glimpse into the daily lives and missions of the Jedi Order prior to Palpatine’s rise and the commencement of the Clone Wars. Each issue follows a different group of Jedi on their respective assignments, culminating in a climactic battle against an adversary that ties all the stories together. The first installment of “Star Wars: Jedi Knights” was released in March, with a total of 10 issues scheduled to be published.
In just a short appearance on “The Mandalorian”, Kelleran Beq captured viewers’ hearts and became a beloved character among Star Wars fans. With anticipation running high for the upcoming “Star Wars: Jedi Knights” issue, there is certainly widespread excitement to see more of him. Given his impressive display of power and selflessness in protecting Grogu on “The Mandalorian”, it will be intriguing to witness Kelleran interacting with other Jedi and explore his character in a new light. As “Star Wars: Jedi Knights” approaches its climax, there is a strong possibility that Kelleran may reappear before the series concludes to assist his companions against any impending threats.
It appears that using established works such as “Star Wars: Jedi Knights” might be the optimal (and perhaps sole) approach for Lucasfilm to further develop Kelleran in future projects. While Best’s concept of a “Jedi John Wick” movie is intriguing, it seems doubtful that this idea will materialize. Luckily, Lucasfilm has several upcoming Star Wars films in production, none of which seem to be set during the prequel era (where Kelleran could potentially fit). However, the character isn’t being neglected. Maybe one day we’ll see a book or comic that reveals his fate following Order 66.
