Warning: This article contains major spoilers for 9-1-1’s April 17 episode “Lab Rats.”
Peter Krause‘s time on 9-1-1 is not over yet.
Although the beloved character of LAFD captain Robert “Bobby” Nash, played by the actor, met his untimely end in the April 17th episode of the current eighth season, titled “Lab Rats”, fans won’t have to say goodbye for long as they’ll see him again soon on ABC’s show.
In an interview with Variety on April 17, showrunner Tim Minear revealed that Episode 15 won’t mark Peter Krause’s last appearance this season. He hinted that the storyline might not conclude with Bobby’s death and the characters moving on as if nothing happened. Instead, it seems like there could be room for Krause to reappear in some form or another.
He mentioned that the last three episodes of this season will primarily explore the consequences following the surprising demise of Peter’s character, a role initially presented in the first season back in 2018.
Tim clarified, “The last three episodes aren’t therapy sessions per se, but they delve deeply into Bobby’s passing. Despite that, there’s still plenty of exhilarating action and first-responder drama leading up to our finale, which keeps the thrill factor high.
The producer additionally shared his rationale behind ending the actor’s character. He mentioned, “People still hold their breath and are thrilled when Athena performs a daring plane landing on the freeway or a ship sinks, as an example of Angela Bassett‘s role,” but after eight years, it seemed necessary, if we aim to produce compelling stories with real consequences in the future, someone must meet their end.
The primary reason, as Tim put it, was that it felt logical. It wasn’t random, because if you follow Bobby’s sad storyline, from where he began and how he moved to LA seeking redemption, it seems like a tragic fit for his character in a way it wouldn’t be for another character.
Additionally, Tim mentioned that he chose not to minimize the impact of eliminating a character, stating, “Bobby’s demise significantly influences each character’s narrative in a manner that no other character’s death could match.
In his own words, Peter has expressed his thoughts about the death of his character. He acknowledged that many fans are saddened by this turn of events, as they should be, since it is indeed a loss. However, he also emphasized that this was not just a daring move on an already daring series; Bobby Nash’s demise was written as a sacrifice, and his character was crafted specifically for such a moment.
He went on to say, “Everyday heroes put their lives on the line for us, ensuring that we get another day. His narrative pays tribute to them. Here at 9-1-1, we salute all the extraordinary individuals who perform these perilous jobs and work tirelessly to keep us secure.

Prior to the start of the third season for “The Sex Lives of College Girls”, it was revealed that Renee Rapp has chosen to depart from the show’s cast.
She expressed on social media in July 2023, “College friends relocated me to Los Angeles and introduced me to some of my most cherished individuals.” After 2.5 years – it’s resulted in you all and this wonderful community for me.
The co-creator of the show, Mindy Kaling, also affirmed that Rapp was leaving. She expressed her affection for Renee Rapp on Instagram Stories, saying, “We adore @reneerapp so much and it will be sad to see her go as Leighton Murray!” Later, she mentioned Rapp’s flourishing music career, expressing excitement about seeing her friend on tour.
Over a year ago, there were whispers that Kevin Costner might abruptly leave the popular Paramount drama after four and a half seasons. However, it wasn’t until June 2024 that he officially confirmed he wouldn’t be coming back to wrap up the series during its fifth and final season.
For 19 years, Ellen Pompeo played the role of Meredith Grey, and in February 2023, she donned her scrubs for the final time as a principal cast member on the ABC drama.
On The Drew Barrymore Show in December 2022, Pompeo expressed the need for change, saying, “I need to shake things up a bit.” At age 53, she confessed her mind is like scrambled eggs and needs something fresh. In other words, just as one can’t solve the same crossword puzzle every day, Pompeo felt it was time to try new experiences.
In a recent development, it has been disclosed that Henry Cavill, who played key roles in Batman vs. Superman, is departing from the Netflix fantasy series following its third season. It was then announced that Liam Hemsworth will take over the role of Geralt for season four and possibly beyond.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram last October, I, Henry Cavill, confessed that my voyage as Geralt of Rivia has been an exhilarating rollercoaster ride – a blend of terrifying creatures and unforgettable escapades. Regrettably, come Season 4, it’s time for me to bid farewell to the medallion and swords that have become my trusted companions.
Originally portrayed by Jesse Lee Soffer, the character of Detective Jay Halstead bid farewell in 2022 as Soffer decided to hang up his badge following a decade on the show.
In a statement following his last performance on the NBC procedural, Soffer expressed that crafting this hour drama each week has been a heartfelt endeavor for everyone involved. He is forever honored by his tenure as Detective Jay Halstead.
After five seasons, Damian Lewis departed Showtime’s Billions in Oct. 2021.

Following three enchanting seasons as Macy, the eldest sister character played by Madeleine Mantock on The CW’s reboot of Charmed, Madeleine announced her departure prior to season four in 2021. In a statement expressing gratitude for the experience, she mentioned her joy in collaborating with our exceptional producers, creatives, co-stars, and crew.
As it happened, Elizabeth Keen wouldn’t discover Raymond Reddington’s true identity because Megan Boone, who played her, decided to depart from NBC’s The Blacklist at the close of season eight. Consequently, her character was terminated before she could lay eyes on the letter that would have unveiled all secrets. Boone symbolized the end of Liz’s journey in 2021 through an Instagram post where she described the whole experience as a “dream.
In the second installment of “Bridgerton”, one duke was missing. Rege-Jean Page, who had captivated audiences worldwide with his stellar performance, left many hearts aching when it was revealed that he wouldn’t be part of the series for its 2021 season.
Later on, he shared with Vanity Fair that he had agreed to take on a task, completed it, and then proceeded to do some additional tasks. In essence, that’s the entire narrative. He lamented, expressing a desire for the story to be more captivating than just fulfilling his obligations.
In 2018, Ruby Rose first appeared in the Arrowverse crossover and later starred as Kate Kane, also known as Batwoman, in one season of the CW drama. This marked a significant milestone as it made her the first lesbian superhero to lead her own show, with Batwoman publicly coming out in a notable TV event. However, two days after the season finale in 2020, Rose announced she was leaving the role. The position was subsequently filled by Javicia Leslie, who will play Ryan Wilder and assume control of the Batcave in season two.
Later on in season two, Kate got a bit of a face swap and returned played by Wallis Day.
In 2020, I chose to part ways with the beloved series “Superstore” at the conclusion of season five, leaving Cloud 9 without a manager and the show without its central figure. However, due to unforeseen circumstances brought about by the pandemic, I reappeared in the first two episodes of season six. When it was announced that season six would be the last, I returned once more for the series finale to ensure that Amy and Jonah (played by Ben Feldman) received a heartwarming ending they truly deserved.
In the final episode of the fourth season of Syfy’s series, ‘The Magicians’, Jason Ralph’s character Quentin successfully embarked on a mission to rescue Eliot (Hale Appleman). However, in the process of saving his friend, Quentin made the ultimate sacrifice. Although the show often deals with deceased characters given its name, Ralph did not reappear for the fifth and concluding season.
Ahead of the final season, Arrow‘s Emily Bett Rickards announced her exit in a poem of sorts.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel deeply connected with Felicity. However, once chapters 1 through 7 wrap up, it seems we must bid our emotional farewell. This is what her message conveyed.
She did, however, return for a guest appearance in the show’s 2020 series finale.
In 2018, Lauren Cohan bid farewell to The Walking Dead after lengthy contract talks. She showed up in a few episodes of season nine, but after a significant time leap, her character Maggie Greene was missing. Producers hoped she would reappear in some form for season 10, and when her TV series Whiskey Cavalier ended, their wish came true. Cohan re-emerged in the 16th episode of this season, which aired in October 2020.
Following closely in the footsteps of Cohan and Andrew Lincoln departing from the zombie drama, I must now address the exit of the remarkable Danai Gurira. She gracefully entered the AMC series in season three, portraying the katana-wielding character Michonne. Her final appearance was seen in a season 10 episode that aired in March 2020.
In the first season, Nicollette Sheridan was a frequent character, and she became a mainstay in the second series. Her portrayal was that of the legendary Alexis Carrington. However, in 2019, prior to the start of season three, she chose to step away from the CW reboot to be with her ailing mother.
George Eads parted ways with the CBS remake during 2019, around the middle of its third season. Back then, he openly shared his wish to focus on spending more quality time with his loved ones.
The show “Fox’s Lethal Weapon” has been no stranger to cast departures. In the second season, actor Clayne Crawford was let go from the series, and in October 2018, Damon Wayans, his co-star, announced his intention to leave the popular drama after completing a 13-episode third season. He stated, “I’m going to be quitting the show in December after we finish the initial 13, so I really don’t know what they’re planning, but that’s what I’m planning.” Wayans, a 58-year-old diabetic, added, “I’m working 16-hour days… Murtaugh said, ‘too old for this.'” This indicates that the character of Murtaugh might have made a similar comment about being too old for the demanding work.
The producers didn’t have to create a backup plan, as the series ended following its third season.
During the ninth season of Shameless, Cameron Monaghan’s character was imprisoned. In reality, Monaghan had decided to pursue new opportunities after spending nine years on the show. However, in a surprising turn of events for television, he agreed to come back for season 10 and was back on set when the show resumed for its 11th and last season in December 2020.
After nine seasons as Fiona Gallagher, Emmy Rossum announced plans to leave Shameless in 2018.
In a statement, executive producer John Wells noted that Emmy Rossum will always be considered part of the Shameless family. He praised her role as Fiona for contributing significantly to the show’s success, both in her captivating portrayal and leadership on set, including directing several episodes. They are currently working diligently to create a fitting season nine finale for Shameless that properly says goodbye to Fiona while acknowledging Emmy’s exceptional work. Though it’s sad when an ensemble member decides to leave the fictional house, they welcome the possibility of Fiona returning for visits or moving back in. John Wells looks forward to continuing the tales of this unpredictable family and the entire Shameless team will miss Emmy and her remarkable character, Fiona.
Chelsea Peretti initially appeared in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” during its debut on NBC, but she didn’t stay throughout the entire show’s run. In a series of tweets back in 2018, the actress revealed her intentions to depart from the comedy, yet hinted at potential future appearances. Interestingly, she modeled her farewell statement after Sara Rossum’s departure letter from “Shameless.” Peretti gave birth to a son with husband Jordan Peele in 2017. Her character took maternity leave and was absent during several episodes in season five.
Lincoln departed from “The Walking Dead” during season nine, having bid farewell to the grueling ordeal of the zombie apocalypse. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2018, he expressed, “This group has been an extraordinary surrogate family for me. However, I also have a real family waiting at home, and it’s time for me to return.
After 15 years, Pauley Perrette chose to put down her lab coat and depart from NCIS in the year 2018. She expressed, “I have such strong faith in God and the universe, and it suddenly became overwhelmingly clear that this was the right time.” After careful consideration, she opted to disclose the news herself on Twitter to avoid any sensationalism. In her own words, Abby’s departure is not just a typical TV plot device.
Back in 2018, it was known that Willa Holland, a main cast member on The CW’s Arrow, was planning to depart the series. According to showrunner Marc Guggenheim, Holland requested a decrease in her episode appearances and eventual exit during season six. Interestingly, this departure occurred at the same time as Roy (Colton Haynes), Thea’s boyfriend, returned to the show. Consequently, they embarked on a journey together, aiming to destroy the perilous Lazarus Pits that Thea’s father had previously discovered, riding off into the sunset.
Actress Grace Park, best known for her role on Battlestar Galactica, departed Hawaii Five-0 prior to its eighth season in 2017. She and fellow cast member Daniel Dae Kim parted ways following unsuccessful negotiations to achieve equal pay with their fellow actors.
Later on, Park expressed gratitude for the insights gained, yet emphasized making decisions in line with personal integrity. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he stated, “I acknowledge that people are striving hard, and they all have unique histories.
Similar to Park, Kim departed from the CBS drama during the gap between seasons seven and eight. In a Facebook post, Kim explained that his decision to part ways was challenging, and he was open to returning if needed, but “unfortunately, CBS and I could not reach an agreement on a new contract.
The NBC drama’s fourth season concluded with Sophia Bush’s character receiving a job offer from the FBI in New York, causing her to leave the show’s Chicago setting. In December 2018, the actress disclosed that she left the series due to “repeated instances of abusive treatment.
Following four seasons on the HBO comedy, T.J. Miller decided to part ways in 2017, describing it as a “natural conclusion.” In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he expressed, “It’s intriguing for me to leave a show at its peak. I’m curious to see how the series will evolve and adapt without this character.
As a devoted fan following the CBS comedy, I must share an update: The first season brought about some significant changes within the show’s creative direction. Erinn Hayes, who graced us as Kevin James’ wife on screen, parted ways with the production in 2017, marking a key aspect of this creative overhaul. From her tweet, it appears that this decision wasn’t mutual. She expressed her feelings poignantly: “Indeed, I’ve been released from the show. It’s truly saddening, as season 1 was an extraordinary experience for me. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing fans for their unwavering support.
After teaming up with my former co-star, Leah Remini from “King of Queens,” I found myself transitioning to a new phase. Eventually, CBS decided to end the series entirely.
