As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that while the DC Universe technically started in December with the animated series “Creature Commandos”, many will likely dive into this new franchise through James Gunn‘s unique take on Superman. Just like numerous creators before him, Gunn is putting his personal touch on the Man of Steel. However, what sets this upcoming DC film apart is that it won’t just focus on Clark Kent but also features a team of superheroes working alongside David Corenswet’s Clark Kent. Recently, we got another sneak peek at Superman through a behind-the-scenes video, and Gunn can’t help but express his excitement about the title character and provide clearer glimpses of these supporting heroes.
Today, April 18th is recognized as Superman Day, marking the debut of the iconic character in Action Comics #1, which was published on this day in 1938. Given the significance of this date, it’s no surprise that DC Studios has planned something special for their 2025 movie lineup. Here’s a sneak peek at what they’ve prepared:
After completing projects like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1, James Gunn not only got appointed to jointly manage DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, but he also agreed to direct the upcoming Superman film following a discussion about his concept with Safran. As Gunn explained in a video, he’s been trying to perfect his Superman idea for years, and once he found the right approach for this “noble” and “beautiful” character, he was fully committed. The new Superman movie, which comes 12 years after the release of the last standalone Superman film, Man of Steel, is set to follow soon.
In addition to Superman’s main filming, actors like David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi express admiration for James Gunn’s direction and anticipation for the movie’s premiere. However, what particularly grabbed my attention in this video was a focused look at Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. The latter is intriguing because while we saw a glimpse of Metamorpho’s face in the initial Superman trailer, this video offers an extensive unveiling of the character being portrayed live-action for the first time.
In this upcoming summer blockbuster, Hawkgirl and Metamorpho will team up with Fillion’s Guy Gardner and Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific in a joint effort. As the story progresses, they’ll join forces with Superman. Additionally, we have Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, Hoult’s Lex Luthor, Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., who you might remember from Creature Commandos, Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce’s Perry White, the lovable Krypto, and numerous other significant DC characters set to make an appearance. This behind-the-scenes video is a glimpse into events following the unveiling of the extended Superman look at CinemaCon.
