Later on, Juice (Theo Rossi) discovers that the stolen weapons were hidden in the Mayans’ warehouse.

SAMCRO devises a strategy to retaliate against the Mayans for stealing their weapons and setting fire to their own warehouse. A team consisting of Clay, Jax, Tig (Kim Coates), Chibs (Tommy Flanagan), and Juice moves towards the Mayans’ storage facility. Upon arrival, they discover not only their stolen weaponry but also a cache of heroin belonging to the Mayans. Following the elimination of several guards, including a Nordic member, Jax and his associates detonate the Mayans’ warehouse in a manner similar to how they destroyed their own.

In this particular sequence, the only instance where Scott Glenn portrays Clay is during the explosion of the Mayans’ warehouse. Given that it’s a night setting, it might be tricky to spot him, especially since he’s running alongside Jax, Juice, Chibs, and Tig. However, upon closer inspection, you can clearly identify that it’s Scott Glenn in this scene. The subsequent scene shows Ron Perlman as Clay in the car, watching the warehouse explode from a distance. This could make Glenn’s brief appearance seem lost amidst the action-packed sequence.

In an interview with Fresh Air in 2014, Perlman revealed he auditioned for the role of Clay because another actor was already cast, but the network found they weren’t getting the desired result. However, since the network appreciated Sutter’s idea for Sons of Anarchy, they were open to reshooting the pilot and starting anew if they could find the ideal actor to play Clay.

Despite being questioned about the unsuitability of the initial Clay actor, Perlman remained respectful and merely acknowledged that the actor is exceptionally talented yet possesses a delicate acting style not quite in sync with Clay. It’s debatable whether Sons of Anarchy would have had the same influence with a more subdued actor like Scott Glenn, as Clay is far from subtle and quiet.
