Kevin Bacon May Reprise Role as Valentine McKee in Tremors Sequel

Kevin Bacon has frequently shown interest in reprising his role as Valentine McKee from the movie “Tremors” for many years. Whether it’s responding to fans by stating he’s simply “waiting for the call,” or expressing that this is his only film he’s watched again since its release, it’s evident that the handyman character holds a special place in Bacon’s heart. The creators of Tremors have recently regained control over the original 1990 script, which could potentially give Bacon another chance to play Valentine. This development grants them creative control over the franchise following their absence from Universal Studio’s recent sequels.

Based on reports from Bloody Disgusting, Stampede Entertainment, who produced the original 1990 Tremors movie and its first three sequels, have scored a significant win by acquiring the rights to the script of the initial film. Directors Ron Underwood, producers Nancy Roberts, and writers Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson now have the opportunity to push the Tremors franchise further if they wish, as the town of Perfection (tormented by “graboids”) is their new playground. In a statement on their website, the team expresses their aim for the franchise is to bring it back to Perfection. However, they are not yet confirming the return of Bacon as Valentine, but only hint at the possibility.

In our creative process, we’re not incorporating outside suggestions. Instead, we’re brainstorming concepts for a sequel to the Perfection series, and potentially introducing some extraordinary graboid scenarios in fresh environments. Whatever project we eventually propose to Hollywood won’t be a reboot of the initial film with a new cast. It also won’t be a revised adaptation of Tremors 5 as originally scripted. However, we are contemplating the possibility of bringing Kevin Bacon back as Val, though it’s not guaranteed yet!

1990 saw the theater release of “Tremors”, a film that didn’t initially garner much attention, but its monster horror genre gradually gained recognition. The story revolves around two handymen, Val McKee (played by Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward), who dream of leaving the isolated town of Perfection, Nevada due to their monotonous lives. However, their ordinary existence takes a turn when they stumble upon a string of peculiar deaths and a worried seismologist. As they team up with a conspiracy enthusiast, Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), and his wife Heather Gummer (Reba McEntire), they find themselves battling against enormous, worm-like creatures that crave human flesh.

Kevin Bacon’s Determination to Not Give Up on Reprising ‘Tremors’ Role

As a devoted enthusiast, I understand that actors must constantly gaze toward the future. In an ever-evolving world like television and film, it’s all too easy to be left behind. Yet, this doesn’t mean they can’t occasionally look back with nostalgia. During an interview with Esquire in 2021, Kevin Bacon was asked about a role he’d like to revisit from his past. Initially, he expressed a preference for leaving the past untouched, but then he fondly remembered Tremors.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’ve always been eager to revive the iconic “Valentine” franchise. Around its 25th anniversary, I pitched the idea to Blumhouse, who showed keen interest. Unfortunately, Universal Studios opted out of producing it as a feature film. Instead, they suggested transforming it into a series. The project was shopped around, eventually landing at SyFy. A pilot episode was produced, but unfortunately, it never made it past the initial stages and vanished without a trace. Now, I can’t help but wonder if it’s time for someone to rediscover those lost episodes and bring this beloved series back to life.
