Sinners Shatters Horror Records with Historic A CinemaScore Grade!

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have struck gold with their latest project. The vampire film, currently gracing cinema screens, has broken new ground in its genre with its exceptional CinemaScore rating.

The film “Sinners” received an A on CinemaScore upon its theater release, a system that rates movies based on audience feedback after screenings and assigns letter grades to new releases. This is the highest grade ever given by CinemaScore for an original R-rated horror movie, setting a new record. Additionally, it’s the highest-rated film of Ryan Coogler’s career, outshining his past collaborations with Michael B. Jordan such as “Fruitvale Station”, “Creed”, “Black Panther”, and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.

Generally speaking, horror movies aren’t typically awarded high CinemaScore grades. Recent titles such as “Drop” (B) and “Heart Eyes” (B-) received some positive feedback upon release but didn’t manage to secure a B+ or higher. “Sinners”, on the other hand, could potentially achieve an A grade, which sets it apart from films like “A Quiet Place: Part II” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s”, both of which earned A- scores. However, it is notable that the latter two were spin-offs. What makes “Sinners” even more impressive is the consensus between critics and audiences; on Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a Certified Fresh score of 98% along with a Verified Hot audience score of 96%.

Sinners Has Drawn High Praise and Outperformed Expectations

The positive trend persists for the movie “Sinners”. On its opening day and previews, it managed to earn almost $20 million. This suggests that over the three-day weekend, the total earnings could reach around $20 million. Notably, despite this impressive debut, director Coogler isn’t in a hurry to expand “Sinners” into a series, as he has shared that the film was conceived with a standalone storyline from the beginning.

After spending some time making franchise movies, Coogler expressed a desire for something new. He longed to work on a film that felt fresh and personal to him. He wanted to offer audiences an original and distinctive piece of work. In essence, he aimed for the movie to provide a complete dining experience – appetizers, main courses, and desserts. His goal was to create a holistic, finished product.

Directed and penned by Coogler, the movie titled “Sinners” features Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. Their homecoming to their small town in 1932 takes an eerie turn when they discover it’s been overtaken by a malevolent force from the supernatural realm. The star-studded cast includes Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, and Jayme Lawson.

Sinners is now playing in movie theaters.
