Star Wars Reveals Anakin Skywalker’s Fight With Boba Fett (But Is It Canon?)

At Star Wars Celebration Japan, enthusiasts of Star Wars received an exclusive surprise alongside other exciting announcements made by the Lucasfilm/Disney team. During the 20th anniversary panel for Star Wars animation, Dave Filoni – creator of Clone Wars and chief creative officer at Lucasfilm – unearthed previously unfinished footage from several abandoned episodes depicting bounty hunter Cad Bane training Boba Fett in the bustling streets of Coruscant. This intriguing scene may potentially be featured in the upcoming Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld series, but it also offers a glimpse that fans of The Clone Wars have long been eager to see before its conclusion.

In the video posted by Filoni, we watch as Bane watches Boba Fett soaring through the cityscape. Pursuing him aggressively is Anakin Skywalker on a speeder bike, fully geared up from his Clone Wars era and firing at Boba Fett. He manages to dodge some of the shots, but eventually gets struck by other airborne vehicles in the bustling metropolis, causing him to plummet to the ground below.

At the recent Star Wars Celebration event, I was fortunate enough to catch a sneak peek at an uncompleted duel between my favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett, and the legendary Anakin Skywalker. The anticipation was palpable as these two iconic characters faced off in what promised to be an epic showdown.

In a swift turn of events, Anakin successfully brings down Fett’s bike with a shot, followed by another aimed at the fallen Jedi. However, Anakin skillfully deflects this attack with his lightsaber, pushing Fett back to the ground again. As Skywalker approaches to verify if Fett is still alive, the bounty hunter springs up and flees the scene, escaping into the distance.

Later on, Anakin reaches out to Mace Windu for a chat and fills him in about the ongoing situation. The pursuit stemmed from what appeared to be an assassination attempt, and Anakin admits that he failed to catch his target. However, it’s worth noting that he didn’t recognize the bounty hunter he was chasing – this seems like their very first encounter in the storyline.

Given that the Clone Wars episodes were never completed, it’s questionable if this encounter could be deemed their first official meeting as future allies. Although they shared the same space during Attack of the Clones, they didn’t meet in person. Boba Fett had encounters with Jedi during the Clone Wars, notably in his younger days and later on when he founded Krayt’s Claw, the bounty hunter syndicate.

Despite this, Fett primarily targeted Mace Windu because of his role in the death of Jango, Fett’s father. Later, Fett and Anakin would collaborate in “The Empire Strikes Back,” which resulted in Han Solo being encased in carbonite, leaving a disheartened Chewbacca behind. Had those episodes aired, their dynamics might have evolved in various ways before they reached Cloud City.

Discovering this video clip expands the potential for additional scenarios in future Star Wars animated series. For instance, it’s plausible that we might encounter similar instances in upcoming series like Tales of the Underworld or the newly unveiled Darth Maul series. Only time will tell what directions they may take.
