What Lies Ahead: Predictions for Each Major Wheel of Time Character After Season3

Includes SPOILERS for The Wheel of Time season 3 finale and spoilers from the book series.

The third season of “The Wheel of Time” has concluded, and we anticipate that all major characters will reappear in the upcoming season 4 to further their stories. This popular fantasy TV series is based on Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” novels, but due to alterations in the sequence of events for a smoother transition to television, it has become challenging to predict where the story might head next. The third season followed “The Shadow Rising,” suggesting that “The Fires of Heaven” would be the obvious succession; however, it seems unlikely to follow such a linear path.

In the adaptation of The Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime Video, they skipped over book three, The Dragon Reborn. This suggests that they will return to cover some essential parts from it. As for the next book to be adapted, it appears to primarily be The Fires of Heaven. Interestingly, the series seems to have laid groundwork for stories from Lord of Chaos and even Towers of Midnight, the thirteenth book in the series. These are speculations, but they’re based on how the characters’ storylines progressed throughout the season.

6. Rand

Rand Needs To Go To Tear

In the upcoming season 4, it appears Rand’s narrative becomes more distinct. As The Dragon Reborn, he must adhere to the Karaethon Cycle, a prophecy essential for his readiness in the Last Battle. A notable event in this sequence, chronologically speaking, involves him acquiring the sa’angreal sword, Callandor, from the Stone of Tear fortress. This might seem puzzling to readers familiar with Robert Jordan’s series, as it occurs prior to “The Shadow Rising” in his original timeline.

In a conversation with RadioTimes prior to the season, the producer and actress playing Moiraine, Rosamund Pike, clarified their decision to skip “The Dragon Reborn,” stating, “We didn’t ignore the Stone of Tear; we simply changed the sequence.” During The Wheel of Time season 3 finale, Moiraine hinted that with the Aiel now supporting Rand, he would have an army to capture the Stone of Tear. It appears that after obtaining Callandor, Rand’s next step will be to follow his journey as outlined in “The Fires of Heaven,” leading him to Caemlyn, the capital city of Andor.

5. Moiraine & Lan

Moiraine’s Fate Might Drastically Change In The Show

In the series The Fires of Heaven, Moiraine’s narrative becomes somewhat puzzling since her character vanishes for multiple novels in the middle of the storyline. This disappearance takes place during a fight with Lanfear, after they both pass through a redstone gateway and are not seen again afterwards. Considering that Moiraine and Lanfear had a confrontation in the season 3 finale, and Rosamund Pike is both an important character and a producer on the show, it seems unlikely that her character would be written off for such a substantial part of the tale.

In my estimation, Moiraine is likely to discover what transpired at the White Tower, and upon learning about Siuan Sanche’s destiny, she will assume many of Siuan’s responsibilities in the ensuing books once her mourning period ends. This involves guiding Egwene and aiding in the creation of a dissident group of Aes Sedai against Elaida’s White Tower. Lan was scarcely present in The Wheel of Time season 3, but there were numerous indications suggesting his noble heritage. His narrative could potentially reconnect him with Nynaeve, or he might continue to stay by Moiraine’s side temporarily.

4. Mat

Mat’s Show Differences Make Him Hard To Pin Down

Mat has been challenging to forecast in the TV series adaptation, as he’s seemed entirely out of context since season 2 commenced. This is because Mat was predominantly in the Aiel Waste alongside Rand from “The Shadow Rising” novel and a significant part of “The Fires of Heaven,” so his presence in Tanchico during season 3 suggests more deviations for his character. It’s possible that he will stick with Nynaeve and Elayne, or he might rejoin Rand in Cairhien.

In the books, Mat Cauthon is an extraordinary character who often finds himself at odds with Aes Sedai, the One Power, and even his friend Rand al’Thor, once he discovers that Rand is the Dragon Reborn. He avoids responsibility whenever possible, which explains his desire to get rid of the One Power when he encounters the Eelfinn in the books. Since the TV series portrays Mat differently, it’s tough to foresee how his storyline will unfold.

3. Perrin

Perrin Will Resolve His Conflict With The White Cloaks

In the third season, Perrin’s return to the Two Rivers closely follows his departure from “The Shadow Rising” book, but his future actions are less clear. At the end of book four in Jordan’s series, Perrin refused capture by the White Cloaks and they departed, leaving him behind to heal from his battle injuries. This meant he was absent during “The Fires of Heaven”. Since the TV show won’t keep Perrin out for an entire season, it seems likely that they altered his ending to have him join the White Cloaks instead.

In the upcoming story arc of the series, we can expect Perrin’s narrative to be influenced by “Towers of Midnight,” a book where he faces off against Dain Bornhald and the Children of the Light. Since Perrin has already surrendered to the White Cloaks, this confrontation may occur earlier in the show than it does in the books. It’s possible that Perrin will reconnect with his friends by the end of the current season, but a significant part of season 4 might focus on him being held captive and making his case during a White Cloaks trial for his survival.

2. Nynaeve & Elayne

This Pair Will Continue To Pursue The Black Ajah

As a seasoned movie critic, I’m eager to share my insights on the forthcoming season 4 of “The Wheel of Time”. Nynaeve and Elayne will continue their journey together, picking up right where they left off in Tanchico. Moghedien, now in possession of the Domination Bands, poses a significant threat, and the elusive Black Ajah are still at large. Liandrin, one of their number, is aiming to ascend to the rank of Forsaken.

Nynaeve’s tale in “The Fires of Heaven” finds her relentlessly chasing Moghedien, but this time, the chase takes place within Tel’aran’rhiod, the mystical World of Dreams. This pursuit is likely to intertwine with Liandrin’s actions, potentially leading the Black Ajah to make a daring attempt to capture Rand using the Domination Bands. Buckle up for an exhilarating ride as these intricate storylines unfold!

In “The Fires of Heaven,” there are significant plot points revolving around Elayne’s family in Caemlyn, particularly as Rand prepares to battle Rahvin. Primarily, Elayne will be with Nynaeve for much of the story, both heading towards the rebel Aes Sedai camp. Along the way, they encounter various challenges such as joining a traveling circus and meeting Galad Damodred again, who has taken up the White Cloak. The TV adaptation might gloss over most of their journey but is likely to focus on their hunt for the Black Ajah and Forsaken.

1. Egwene

Egwene Could Join The Rebel Aes Sedai Camp

In “The Fires of Heaven,” Egwene has less to do, mainly staying in the Aiel Waste. If the prediction holds that the TV show skips Moiraine’s death, then Egwene’s narrative might jump straight to “Lord of Chaos.” This would lead her to join the Rebel Aes Sedai camp in Salidar, potentially experiencing significant growth by the end of season 4. In season 3, she advanced rapidly through her Dreamwalker training and played a crucial role in defeating Lanfear. These developments will undoubtedly deepen further ahead.

As a dedicated fan of The Wheel of Time series, I must say that one intriguing element that continues to captivate me is the ongoing exploration of the Egwene Rand romance. Though it reaches its conclusion in ‘The Shadow Rising’, the TV show has kept this thread alive, even as we approach the end of season 3. This tension between Rand and Lanfear has created a significant rift, adding depth to their characters. Interestingly, in the books, Egwene’s romantic interests start shifting towards Gawyn Trakand, Elayne’s brother, who was introduced earlier in season 3. This development promises an exciting turn of events as we move forward in the series.
