Doctor Who Ratings PLUMMET! Is the Show in Trouble?

Last Saturday, on BBC One, the viewership for the second episode of Doctor Who‘s fifteenth season decreased significantly, as only 1.58 million people watched Lux.

Last week’s season premiere of The Robot Revolution was watched by less people than the previous week, marking a new low for the show’s overnight viewership ratings. This is the first time the number has fallen below 2 million, which is a record-breaking event in the series’ history.

It’s important to mention that the statistics might not provide a complete picture since they don’t factor in viewers who watched the episode on BBC iPlayer before its airing on BBC One, which started at 8am on Saturday.

In a future announcement, we’ll unveil the combined scores for iPlayer, devices, and catch-up services.

Even though the numbers aren’t particularly promising – it’s concerning, actually – since they’re similar to what we saw last year, and those figures never dipped under 2 million.

On Saturday, the episode ranked as the fourth most-watched program on BBC One, with News at Ten, Casualty, and Blankety Blank drawing more viewers.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Britain’s Got Talent, its rival on ITV1, attracted a significantly larger audience as well.

To be honest, I must admit that not everything about the latest show was a hit for everyone. Yet, as a devoted cinema enthusiast who caught it, I can confidently say that most of us were genuinely impressed! The episode, in particular, featured an exceptionally unique animated antagonist named Mr Ring-a-Ding, brilliantly voiced by Alan Cumming.

As a cinephile, I must say, the creators truly outdid themselves with Mr. Ring-a-Ding! Every single frame exudes perfection, it’s simply breathtaking.

A fellow fan of Doctor Who expressed, “This resolution was incredibly fulfilling for quite some time now. I simply can’t express enough praise for Lux.

Additionally, another viewer voiced their opinion by declaring it as “unquestionably the finest episode from this epoch,” awarding it a high score of 9.5 out of 10.

They went on to say: “This idea is quite extraordinary, the visuals are breathtaking, and the interaction between the Doctor and Belinda remains exceptional. In other words, Doctor Who is operating at its best – it’s unpredictable, intelligent, and utterly distinctive.

In this rephrased version, the scene unfolds as the Doctor and Belinda make their way to Miami during the year 1952. Shortly after their arrival, they stumble upon a chilling mystery concealed within an old, abandoned movie theater. The menacing figure of Mr Ring-a-Ding was later revealed to be the source of this hidden secret.

In addition to Cumming, other notable guests made an appearance in this episode, including Linus Roache, Lewis Cornay, and an enigmatic role by Anita Dobson as Mrs. Flood.

Next week, we’ll proceed with Episode 3 titled “The Well.” This installment will transport the TARDIS to a barren, ruthless mining colony situated far into the future on an unforgiving planet. The lone survivor is the only life left there.

On the following Saturday, which is the 26th of April, Doctor Who resumes on BBC One. In the United Kingdom, you can watch new episodes starting from 8am on Saturdays on BBC iPlayer. For viewers outside of the UK, the series will be available on Disney+.
