Following much discussion on the show The Rookie regarding the enigmatic and powerfully connected assassin Malvado (portrayed by Jimmy Gonzales), it came as a surprise — caution for those yet to watch “Mad About Murder” — to witness his demise in the fourteenth episode of the ongoing seventh season. For many viewers, however, this moment might have brought a sense of relief: a wrapping up of an unresolved thread from Bailey Nune’s (Jenna Dewan) past, effectively concealing her ex-husband’s identity and any link to his death, forever hidden.
In a recent interview with Collider, Alexi Hawley, the showrunner for “The Rookie”, shared his perspective on why the Malvado storyline is significant for the series and particularly for Bailey’s character at this point in time. According to him, what made this storyline intriguing was not just about the plot itself, but rather the exploration of Bailey’s trauma and how it influenced her actions.
Per Hawley:
In my opinion, this narrative primarily focused on the character’s hidden trauma from her past abuse. She wasn’t fully aware of its depth until Malvado and Jason came into the picture, attempting to harm her. Therefore, I believe that these events served to highlight and bring her suppressed trauma to light.
Speaking as a film critic, let me clarify that in essence, Hawley stated she didn’t sacrifice anything in the storyline. This is because although her character seemingly communicated with Malvado, he ultimately found Jason independently, implying that her actions didn’t significantly contribute to his location being unveiled. To put it simply, I believe the narrative has moved beyond any potential repercussions for Dewan’s character stemming from this event.

A Documentary Film Crew Visits The LAPD Asking Some Mysterious Questions
In the upcoming episode titled “A Deadly Secret,” it seems that Nathan Fillion as John Nolan will be stealing the spotlight in some fresh photos. Additionally, these cheesy movie references hint that the duo’s appearance could unearth mystery and possibly cause problems for John and his team.
Absolutely, it could be that everything will turn out rather ordinary and smoothly in the end. This is often a great strategy to ensure a series – that has just been renewed for its 8th season – has a successful run (though we jest).
