Ne Zha 2 Dub Set to Conquer US Box Office

One of this year’s most unexpected hits is planning an elite English voiceover in a bid to conquer the world once more. This film shattered records when it soared to become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, raking in $2.11 billion at the global box office, and joined the ranks of James Cameron’s Avatar movies and Marvel Cinematic Universe Avengers films as the fifth-highest grossing film ever made.

Ne Zha 2 primarily earned its profits at the Chinese box office, yet such an expansive production inevitably piques global curiosity. Consequently, the movie, featuring its native language and subtitles, garnered decent earnings. Now, the newly released English dub is already securing cinema screens in the U.S. and Australia, ready to invest in marketing once more to ensure the film’s success on a broader scale.

Speaking about the film’s past performance outside of China, Cedric Behrel, managing director at Trinity CineAsia, noted: “We had observed its reception elsewhere.

The success of “Ne Zha 2” in Europe has been nothing short of phenomenal. Just one month into its release, it has surpassed all other Chinese films to claim the title of highest-grossing Chinese film in Europe over the past two decades.

As of now, no details have been revealed about the actors who will voice the English dub for the film. However, considering the potential for significant profits, it’s quite possible that well-known figures might be approached to attract viewers who missed the initial release.

‘Ne Zha 2’s Incredible Box Office Success

Despite superhero films and large American blockbusters typically leading box office sales, Ne Zha 2 unexpectedly surged ahead, dethroning Inside Out 2 as the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, and continued to outperform it.

The sequel to “Ne Zha,” titled “Ne Zha 2,” was penned and helmed by Yu Yang. It’s a continuation of the 2019 film “Ne Zha,” which drew inspiration from Xu Zhonglin’s novel “Investiture of the Gods.” With an estimated production cost of 600 million yuan ($80 million), it surpassed the $742 million box office earnings of its prequel, released in 2019. It found that perfect balance where nothing could halt its unstoppable momentum, much like a runaway train.

The film’s success as a global phenomenon doesn’t have a clear explanation. Despite the fact that animated fantasy films are generally well-liked, some might find its length of 144 minutes too long for young viewers. However, in this case, length seems to have made no impact on its popularity. As the language barrier is soon to be overcome – and while some argue that English dubs are detrimental, an animated movie can alter this perception a bit – it’s hard to predict how high Ne Zha 2 will fly as it aims to compete with the biggest blockbusters from the West.
