As Netflix prepares to launch a Dungeons & Dragons TV series within the coming years, fans might want to consider the potential adaptation of one of the renowned Forgotten Realms book series. The upcoming series will take place in the legendary Forgotten Realms, which is undoubtedly one of the most recognized campaign settings within Dungeons & Dragons, second only to Dragonlance. Since Ed Greenwood conceived this campaign setting in the 1960s, Dungeons & Dragons has been cultivating it extensively, resulting in a rich library of books that could provide an excellent foundation for the show’s beginning.
While Drizzt Do’Urden has been widely expected to star in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons, it seems that the series will instead tell an original story, as showrunner Drew Crevello hasn’t confirmed a direct adaptation of any character or book. However, given the nature of the game, it’s almost inevitable that the series will delve into classic Dungeons & Dragons lore, so it might touch upon specific books or adventure modules at some point. The Brimstone Angels, in particular, could very well make an appearance in the show.
Netflix’s Dungeons & Dragons Show Should Adapt The Brimstone Angels Book Series
Dungeons & Dragons’ Brimstone Angels Deserves More Attention
As a fan eager to delve deeper into the realm of Dungeons & Dragons, I’d like to suggest that the upcoming TV show should also consider exploring the lesser-known series, “Brimstone Angels.” Although Drizzt books are renowned in The Forgotten Realms, American author R. A. Salvatore, their creator, stands out as a remarkable writer for D&D. However, I believe Erin M. Evans matches his prowess with her captivating work on Brimstone Angels. This series, brimming with compelling tiefling female leads and high-octane action, seems tailor-made for contemporary high fantasy TV shows, offering an engaging blend of strength and relatability.
Tackling This Forgotten Realms Story Would Continue Honor Among Thieves’ Tiefling Restoration
Honor Among Thieves Puts Tieflings Front And Center
If the universe of “The Forgotten Realms” were to incorporate elements from “Brimstone Angels,” it could further develop the tiefling revival that began with “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.” Although a sequel to the critically acclaimed “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” may not be imminent, it successfully rekindled interest in tieflings among the public. Often overlooked in previous “Dungeons & Dragons” productions, tieflings are one of the most intriguing species in the game and world of Forgotten Realms. Their demonic appearance adds an edge that could breathe new life into a fantasy series.
In the film “Honor Among Thieves,” Sophia Lillis brought to life a refreshed version of a classic Dungeons & Dragons race, playing Doric, the tiefling druid. Her performance was outstanding. Unfortunately, since Hasbro sold eOne, it seems unlikely that Lillis will reprise her role in “The Forgotten Realms” alongside other cast members from “Honor Among Thieves.” However, if “The Forgotten Realms” were to incorporate elements from “Brimstone Angels,” it could capitalize on the popularity generated by Lillis’ character and deliver more screen time featuring one of the audience’s beloved species. Now is the perfect moment for a sustained tiefling renaissance within the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
