Although it isn’t a comedy series, it has plenty of lighter elements that offset the more somber scenes. As a result, many viewers and critics believe that this is Ryan Murphy’s finest work in years.

Nevertheless, the series occasionally pushes boundaries too much and creates scenarios that seem implausible. This not only drives viewers away but also encourages them to disconnect from the narrative the show aims to convey. Consequently, there are instances that have caused some 9-1-1 fans to abandon the show permanently.

Maddie’s Trauma Was Too Much to Bear

Season 8, Episode 9, “Sob Stories”

Maddie Han, portrayed by Jennifer Love Hewitt, is a cherished character on the TV series 9-1-1. Viewers admire her depiction as a working woman and mother. In Season 8, Maddie went through a harrowing ordeal when she was abducted by Detective Amber Braeburn. While Hewitt’s performance in this challenging storyline deserves recognition, some fans feel that the show seems to be unnecessarily subjecting Maddie to hardships.

It appears as though Maddie’s life is marked by one unfortunate incident following another, as she was previously kidnapped and struggled with postpartum depression. This constant stream of hardships leaves her little time to mourn, leading many viewers to conclude that they can no longer bear witnessing Maddie endure more pain after her second abduction.

Buck and Eddie’s Bond Changes Dramatically

Season 7, Episode 4, “Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered”

Over a long period of time, they have been both friends and coworkers, but in Season 7, their bond underwent a significant change in tone. In “Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered”, it becomes evident that Buck harbors feelings of jealousy towards Eddie’s friendship with Tommy, hinting at unrequited affection for his best friend. In the final scene, it turns out that Buck is indeed in love with Tommy, rendering the shift in their relationship unnecessary.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that whispers about Buck being bisexual had long circulated among us, even before the Season 7 revelation. Yet, when romantic sparks ignited between him and Eddie, many viewers found themselves taken aback, sensing a hint of a significant romance on the horizon. However, what followed left us bewildered, as if the show was playing a cruel trick by pairing Buck with an unexpected partner instead of exploring that tantalizing tension. This sudden turn of events left fans feeling short-changed and questioning how it altered the essence of their cherished friendship between these two characters.

Eddie Suffers a Shocking Accident

Season 4, Episode 13, “Suspicion”

Towards the finale of “Suspicion,” Eddie receives a shoulder wound, causing Buck to stand paralyzed with terror and soaked in blood. Consequently, many viewers can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu, as they perceive these scenes as being reminiscent of similar ones in numerous other dramas.

Hen and Karen’s Relationship Reached an Unfortunate Breaking Point

In the series, it’s evident that Hen and Karen share a strong, affectionate bond and have a charming family. However, in the episode titled “Full Moon (Creepy AF)”, viewers learn that Hen is secretly seeing her ex, adding further tension to her relationship with Karen. Although this occurs early in the show, many spectators interpreted this action as a red flag, leading them to stop following the series.

Despite the excitement brought by Hen’s cheating scandal on the show, viewers found her infidelity somewhat bewildering. Given her impressive education and successful career, it seems unusual for Hen to jeopardize her marriage with a fling with her ex, who had just been released from prison. It appears that the writers of 9-1-1 aimed to portray Hen in a new light, but this plotline may have instead tarnished fans’ view of her character.

In Episode 13 of Season 6, titled “Mixed Feelings,” character Buck demonstrates his fresh abilities in a casual poker game, which some viewers found to be an overextension of his new talents. This might appear to be a trivial observation, but it suggests that the show occasionally pushes jokes beyond their natural lifespan. Some fans believed that Buck’s superpower could have been used as a humorous footnote rather than being given such prominence.

Despite the potential for an engaging plot given Buck’s stature, the narrative fell flat as viewers weren’t well-acquainted with Connor and Cameron. Although they made occasional appearances during the series, their bond with Buck seemed tenuous at best. Many spectators felt that this story arc was haphazardly inserted into Season 6, lacking a solid foundation in viewer interest.

Athena’s Abilities Reach New Heights

Season 8, Episode 3, “Final Approach”

9-1-1 doesn’t typically have a main character like other shows might, but it frequently focuses on Athena Grant. In the earlier seasons, the series delved into her challenges as both a mother and a firefighter, making her a compelling and identifiable figure. However, more recently, the show has portrayed Grant less as a dedicated worker and more like a superhero.

In “Final Approach,” Athena skillfully lands a commercial plane, with assistance from a young boy who plays flight simulator games on his tablet. While this episode was undeniably exhilarating, it seems somewhat implausible and gives the impression that Grant’s abilities are almost limitless. Most viewers appreciate Athena, but this episode feels like an attempt to exaggerate her capabilities, making her seem nearly superhuman.

The Season 8 Premiere Isolated a Lot of Fans

As a movie enthusiast, let me share my perspective on the return of “9-1-1” for Season 8. While the anticipation was palpable among fans, the premiere episode left many viewers, including myself, questioning if they’d ever tune in again. The title, “Buzzkill,” is a fitting description given the unusual narrative – an LA-based bee swarming incident that fans have humorously dubbed a “Bee-nado.”

The concept, though imaginative, felt somewhat distant from reality, and the special effects were lackluster, particularly when held up against today’s standards. It was disappointing to see such a drop in quality from previous seasons.

It appears that some viewers feel that an episode like “Buzzkill” on the show 9-1-1 suggests a lack of creativity and effort, making them question if the show has run out of ideas to explore. As a result, many viewers have decided they can no longer justify watching the series.

To my surprise, many fellow movie enthusiasts didn’t seem thrilled with the latest crossover between 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey. In “Holy Mother of God,” Athena was summoned aboard a ship to pursue an accused bank robber. While the storyline was moderately engaging and both shows complemented each other effectively, audiences were swift to express their disappointment that they had seen this narrative play out before.

Previously, during Season 7, Athena and Bobby opted for a tranquil vacation on a cruise, but it unfortunately turned into another calamity. This has led some viewers to speculate that Ryan Murphy intends to make “Doctor Odyssey” his masterpiece at the expense of his other shows’ quality.
