DOOM: The Dark Ages gets a brand new trailer at Wrestlemania 41

At the grandest WWE wrestling spectacle, WrestleMania 41, an unforeseen emergence of DOOM: The Dark Ages took place, revealing further intrigue in its ominous narrative and intense gameplay through a freshly released trailer.

Once WrestleMania concluded, id Software and Bethesda Softworks unveiled a prolonged edition of their trailer, offering a glimpse into further storyline and in-game content.

The trailer opens with brief glimpses into the game’s narrative, showcasing moments where the Doom Slayer is manipulated (to a degree) by the Makyrs, the struggle between the Night Sentinels and the armies of Hell, and top-tier demons devising plans to eliminate the Doom Slayer.

The Dark Ages promises a more story-driven experience than its predecessors, serving as a prequel that sets the stage for DOOM (2016). This suggests an emphasis on narrative elements such as cutscenes and world-building lore.

Next, we delve into a thrilling sequence showcasing battles from DOOM: The Dark Ages, all accompanied by its powerful heavy metal music score.

In the depicted sequences, the player is shown employing the latest Saw Shield to deflect incoming assaults and tearing apart demons by hurling it, resulting in the gruesome dismemberment of these creatures. The array of newly introduced medieval weapons aids in this carnage, while the Doom Slayer engages in combat with colossal demons, using his Titan-mech and cyborg dragon.

The trailer concludes with sequences hinting at the possibility that the DOOM Slayer could have found his ultimate adversary. A colossal, monstrous demon appears, resembling a cybernetic variant of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu from ‘The Call of Cthulhu’.

I can’t wait to ‘Rip and Tear’ until it is done once again

Without a shadow of a doubt, DOOM: The Dark Ages stands out as one of the highly anticipated Xbox games or PC games for this year, and it’s generating a great deal of excitement among fans – arguably the most buzzworthy DOOM games in recent times.

In early April, our colleague Jez Corden was given an advance look at DOOM: The Dark Ages, which left him and the rest of us at Windows Central buzzing with anticipation.

DOOM: The Dark Ages offers an enhanced focus on narrative elements along with an exquisitely heavy metal aesthetic, showcasing some of the most intricate visuals in the gaming industry.

Additionally, this game boasts an intense battle mechanism, seamlessly combining quick firefights with lightning-fast dodges and close-quarter attacks, as well as grandiose scenes in which you engage massive armies and colossal beasts while piloting a towering mech and a cybernetic dragon.

I thoroughly enjoyed tearing apart and vanquishing demons in DOOM (2016) and DOOM: Eternal. Upon reading Jez’s preview, I am eagerly anticipating the chance to relive this experience once more when DOOM: The Dark Ages releases on May 15, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC (Windows and Steam), and Xbox Game Pass.
