Star Wars Easter Egg: Disney Refuses to Release This TV Show!

2025’s Star Wars Celebration was brimming with thrilling announcements for devoted Star Wars fans, yet one panel included an unexpected reference. At the 20th anniversary celebration of Lucasfilm Animation at Star Wars Celebration, they reminisced about their various shows and unveiled a new series titled “Star Wars: Maul—Shadow Lord.” The panel also showcased a stunning poster showcasing several characters from Lucasfilm Animation’s Star Wars universe.

It appears that some people have pointed out an obscure reference online to a show called “Star Wars Detours” in this poster. If you take a close look at the bottom right corner, there’s a tiny stormtrooper with a big helmet who seems to be gazing up at Jedi Master Even Piell’s long ears.

One solitary stormtrooper, seemingly outshone by other Lucasfilm Animation characters, subtly hints at the early cancellation of Star Wars Detours, a series that may never be fully realized.

Star Wars Detours Is The Last Thing I Expected To See An Easter Egg To

Disney and Lucasfilm have barely acknowledged the show since it was cancelled

I was surprised to see a mention of Star Wars Detours, as it was one of the final Star Wars projects spearheaded by George Lucas, conceived by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich from Robot Chicken fame. This abandoned project would have been a humorous, non-canonical take on the Star Wars universe, set between Episodes III and IV, with recognizable characters portrayed in an over-the-top manner.

Following Lucas’s sale of the franchise, Disney and Lucasfilm deemed it inappropriate to launch an absurd comedy like Star Wars: Detours while encouraging kids to appreciate Episode VII sincerely. However, due to delays, it became apparent after 12 years that this project would not see the light of day. In 2021, Seth Green confirmed his belief that Disney holds no genuine desire to air Star Wars: Detours.

It’s Great To See Disney Acknowledge The Full History Of Star Wars

The animated shows (including Detours) deserve recognition

While some might find Star Wars Detours unexpected, it’s undeniably a delightful addition, particularly in a gathering honoring a significant chunk of Star Wars ‘s storied history. It’s true that Star Wars is primarily known as a live-action film series, but the animated TV shows have been equally instrumental in expanding the saga through imaginative avenues. In fact, even the current live-action TV productions are rooted in the groundwork laid by their animated counterparts.

The Lucasfilm Animation anniversary poster hints at the recollection of the existence of Star Wars Detours, suggesting that its creators invested several years into it. Although it might just be a nod to the past, I fervently wish Disney acknowledges this and ultimately releases Star Wars Detours. With 39 fully produced episodes waiting in the wings, let’s cross our fingers and hope that this overlooked Star Wars series gets its chance to shine on platforms like Disney+ as part of the Star Wars Vintage Collection.
