In the Final Saga of “One Piece,” there’s a great deal of anticipation about which characters might side with or against the Straw Hats as a massive conflict seems imminent. The Egghead Arc and Vegapunk’s message have definitely intensified this battle, and the Elbaf Arc has added more influential figures like Loki, the Holy Knights, and the Giants to the mix. With all the conjecture about who might wind up where, theories abound regarding possible traitors and villain redemptions. In fact, the latest chapter of “One Piece” has indeed shown a significant villain’s redemption, introducing a new ally for Luffy – but not who fans had expected.
In Chapter 1146’s main feature, it’s made clear that Ulti has chosen to accompany Yamato due to her gratitude for his rescue of herself and her brother, Page One, from Who’s Who. This development echoes a long-held theory among fans since the debut of the Tobi Roppo sibling pair in the initial cover story. The latest cover art depicts Ulti crying while hugging Yamato tightly, with the title reflecting her heartfelt declaration: “I’ll forever remember the debt I owe you!! I’ll be your loyal follower for eternity!!” This suggests that Ulti and Page One might be embarking on a journey towards redemption, potentially joining Yamato’s ranks as his new retainers, much like Oden had with the Akazaya Nine.
One Piece Just Revealed the True Objective of Yamato’s Cover Story
Throughout the Elbaf Arc’s latter chapters, fans have pondered if Gunko might secretly side with the Dragons, acting as a double agent similar to Stussy for Vegapunk. However, the recent chapter has taken fans by surprise, showing Gunko defeating the Straw Hats alongside Collun, while at the same time offering Luffy a new ally through his cover story instead. While Yamato’s cover story hasn’t had much excitement so far, the latest chapters are now revealing its true objective: to help Yamato build her own retinue like Oden did, ultimately providing Luffy with more formidable allies in the process.
Given their past conflicts with the Straw Hats during the Wano Arc, it’s plausible that both Ulti and Page One could undergo a change in allegiance considering the current circumstances. With Kaido apparently dead, they seem to find themselves without a place to belong, especially since we learned from SBS Volume 111 that they were the only ones surviving among the Beast Pirates because their father, Hanafuda (a former Warlord), tragically met his end prematurely.
Essentially, unlike other ruthless members of Kaido’s crew, Ulti and Page One have not yet performed acts that make them instantly dislikable, leaving room for the possibility of their redemption. In terms of their role in the oppression of Wano, it is important to remember that even Oden’s own retainers were once outcasts and troublemakers. Most importantly, it’s worth noting that One Piece has previously redeemed much worse antagonists, even transforming some into Straw Hats, suggesting that there’s a chance for Ulti, Page One, and potentially other members of the Tobi Roppo to change their ways as well.
