Essentially, this controller aims to enhance your Xbox Cloud Gaming experience, making it feel similar to using a Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck.

The absolute S9 product is enclosed in eco-friendly packaging that can be recycled, a feature that’s increasingly valued these days. You won’t find any plastic here, which I find commendable. It’s refreshing to see manufacturers taking environmental responsibility beyond the usual excessive use of plastic and polystyrene packaging that some brands still employ.
The controller conveniently adjusts to fit various smart devices like encased iPhones, iPad minis, and Android tablets. Although my phone isn’t as large as an iPad, I sometimes face issues with certain mobile controllers slipping out of position. However, the design of the S9 ensured a snug fit for my phone.
The image might seem odd due to the bulky nature of my case, which has a camera that juts out at the back, but don’t worry, the case securely held it in place.
Regarding customization, abxylute offers interchangeable faceplates, joysticks, and d-pads at no additional cost. You have the freedom to select from three distinct d-pad styles (cross, circle, hybrid). To address a common problem with analog sticks, such as those used by brands like Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo, hall effect joysticks are incorporated to minimize stick drift.
Additionally, you can modify the linear triggers and adjust the vibration directly from the d-pad. For an extra touch of personalization, a six-axis gyro system is available to simulate joystick inputs. The buttons are marketed as ‘quiet,’ which might be less clicky than I personally prefer, but not everyone prefers audible feedback for every button press, so it’s understandable.
If you’re into Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia GeForce Now, or other comparable streaming services, this controller will make mobile gaming a breeze compared to struggling with touchscreen controls, making it much more pleasurable.
Instead of charging your device separately, you can connect it directly to your phone using a USB-C connector, drawing power from your mobile battery. This feature extends quite broadly, so as mentioned earlier, there’s no need to take off your phone case before connecting it. Few mobile controllers can claim this convenience.
Moreover, the package comes with a sticker that you can place on the inner rubber, highlighting the button shortcuts, which is another thoughtful detail I found useful.

- No faceplate variety despite them being swappable

1. On abxylute’s site, I didn’t see a wide variety of faceplates, but I anticipate they’ll add more in the future. It seems unusual to offer this feature with only black and blue options available at the moment.
2. The controller’s lighting can’t be turned off, which is visually appealing but drains my phone battery unnecessarily.
3. Apart from those points, there isn’t much to criticize about this controller. It performs as promised, and while I personally prefer the feel of GameSir’s G8 grips, this is a good alternative and reasonably priced. Variety is the spice of life!
abxylute S9 review: Also consider
One top-notch mobile controller I wholeheartedly endorse is either the GameSir G8 (with USB-C connectivity) or the GameSir G8+ (Bluetooth version). Both are available for $80 on Amazon. These controllers allow you to swap out faceplates and joysticks, but the S9 takes personalization a step further with various D-pad options. The G8 is slightly heavier and has larger grips, making it a matter of preference. Given their similar prices, I recommend trying both before deciding. It’s worth noting that you’ll need to remove the case when using the G8, which gives an edge to the abxylute model in this regard.

This controller features illuminated components which could potentially deplete the battery more rapidly compared to a non-illuminated one.
❌You want a more compact mobile controller
This doesn’t fold up like some mobile controllers
The Abxylute S9 is a fresh challenger in the rapidly growing mobile gaming controller market, and it’s intriguing to observe someone attempting to match GameSir’s value offerings.
Due to its extended size, the Abxylute S9 is an attractive option for those who prefer using it across various devices. Moreover, Abxylute is developing a full Android-based gaming device called the Abxylute One Pro, which appears to be a competitive alternative to the Logitech G Cloud at a more affordable price range. Keep an eye on this brand in 2025, as they could make a significant impact.
