Joel’s Brutal Demise: The Last of Us Show Stuns Viewers with Major Character Death!

Yesterday marked the airing of the second episode of HBO’s hit apocalyptic series, “The Last of Us,” which is based on the video game series by Naughty Dog and PlayStation. This episode, titled “Through the Valley,” has stirred up a bit of discussion. While those who played “The Last of Us Part 2” were prepared for this season’s events, viewers who only watch the show were taken aback, as a significant character has already met their end. Proceed with caution, as the following paragraph contains major spoilers for both the show and the game. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, it’s highly recommended, as it’s excellent!

If you’ve caught that specific episode, you’re already familiar with the scene causing quite a stir: the demise of Joel at Abby’s hands. In retaliation for her father’s death, a nurse from Firefly Medical attending to Ellie in the season finale, takes revenge by shooting Joel in the knee and brutally attacking him with a golf club and her fists. As his companions look on in shock, she displays an uncontrolled rage towards Joel, made even more distressing when Ellie arrives and is restrained. Abby then uses the broken golf club to stab Joel in the throat, ending his life instantly, all while Ellie watches helplessly as the one she couldn’t apologize to takes his last breath.

Players of “The Last of Us Part 2” had expected such a dramatic turn and the ensuing reaction. The unexpected demise of Joel stirred quite a bit of controversy, given his popularity among fans and the feeling that it was excessive. Many share this sentiment now that they know Pedro Pascal, who played Joel so brilliantly in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” However, Joel’s death sparks the plot and moves the characters – Dina, Tommy, and especially Ellie – to places beyond what we had seen before in the series.
