Star Wars Mystery Series from Lost Creator (It Could Be Anything!)

Originally collaborator Carlton Cuse, who left the hit show “Lost” as co-showrunner, is now teaming up with his son Nick Cuse on a brand new “Star Wars” series. Few specifics have been disclosed about this project thus far, although it was initially revealed by “The Insider” on Monday. It’s important to note that this news doesn’t seem to be linked to the Star Wars Celebration and its subsequent flurry of updates. Cuse isn’t the first former “Lost” team member to contribute to the “Star Wars” universe — creator J.J. Abrams directed two films in the sequel saga, while fellow co-showrunner Damon Lindelof briefly worked on the Rey Skywalker sequel, which is still under development without him. It remains uncertain if Cuse and his son will tackle major galaxy-related matters or explore something entirely new.

The partnership between Carlton and Nick Cuse, father and son, seems to be at the helm of this uncharted project. Details such as the setting within a distant galaxy, its timeline, characters, groups, and format remain undisclosed, leaving it shrouded in mystery. This is consistent with the style of the Cuses, who have previously excelled in creating enigmatic projects.

Currently, the Star Wars universe is bustling with activity as numerous other projects are in various stages of development. These upcoming titles might provide valuable insights that could narrow down the options for Cuse’s project, considering Lucasfilm would likely avoid repeating similar themes. On the cinematic side, The Mandalorian and Grogu are slated for release on May 22nd, 2026, followed by Star Wars: Starfighter on May 28th, 2027. The untitled Rey sequel is currently in pre-production, but a release date has yet to be announced.

Following that, there are unnamed projects featuring particular directors, but no plot details have been revealed as of yet. However, two exceptions include a Lando Calrissian spinoff co-written by Donald Glover, and a Rogue Squadron movie helmed by Patty Jenkins in terms of writing and direction. On the television front, Andor Season 2 is set to premiere on April 22nd, 2025.

After that point, the direction we head isn’t entirely clear. The second season of Ahsoka is progressing, but a release date has yet to be announced. The success of Skeleton Crew has fans eager for more, although specifics about another season have not been revealed yet. Lastly, at least two more seasons of Star Wars: Visions are on the way, along with an animated series focusing on Darth Maul titled Maul — Shadow Lord.

Ever since Disney moved most of its Star Wars content outside the main storyline to a separate universe known as Legends, fans have been curious about what’s next. Although some tales from this universe have been incorporated into the main story, it remains unclear which elements are off-limits and which can still be explored. While viewers may dream that Cuse’s show will delve into their preferred stories within this timeline, there’s no certainty that it will happen.

Currently, Star Wars enthusiasts are in for a treat as they find themselves swamped with an abundance of excellent shows and films lined up. Starting from Tuesday, April 22nd, the second season of Andor will be available on Disney+.
