As generative AI expands globally at an unprecedented pace, many professionals are increasingly anxious about job stability. In recent times, influential figures from the tech sector, such as NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, have suggested that software development careers might be facing obsolescence due to the swift rise of AI technology.
As a researcher, I would rather inspire the upcoming generation to explore diverse career paths within the realms of biology, agriculture, education, and manufacturing, rather than confining themselves to a single, traditional path.
Similarly, Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, recently suggested that AI might be capable of taking over many tasks, yet few people would enjoy watching robots play baseball.
It’s worth noting that the philanthropist billionaire suggested an intriguing perspective: he believes that just three professions will remain unaffected by the AI revolution, such as biologists, energy specialists, and programmers or coders. He added that these fields are so intricate that they cannot be entirely automated by artificial intelligence.
Instead, it appears that Former U.S. President Barack Obama holds a contrasting perspective on how artificial intelligence may influence employment within the coding and software development sector.
As stated by Obama, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will continue to grow in significance and influence, ultimately automating tasks beyond just manufacturing and manual labor involving robotic arms.
He also emphasized that the technology is expanding its reach to include complex intellectual tasks, arguing that contemporary AI systems are capable of coding as effectively as approximately 60% to 70% of human coders.
Top-notch programmers can utilize these tools to enhance their current tasks, however, for many repetitive jobs, coders might not be necessary as computers or machines can handle them independently.
This could mean that everyone, including myself and perhaps people in various other professions, might need to reconsider our job situations and find ways to earn sufficient income for our families.
The ex-President emphasized the significance of helping individuals discover their sense of “direction and significance” in life, as more sectors adapt to integrate artificial intelligence.
