Hailey Okula’s Husband Breaks Silence with Heartbreaking Tribute After Her Tragic Death

Matt Okula is keeping his wife’s memory alive.

Only about a month since nursing influencer Hailey Okula, who went by @rnnewgrads on social media, passed away at 33, shortly after giving birth to their son Crew, her spouse offered a touching peek into their cherished moments together in an emotional recollection posted on Easter.

Matt shared on Instagram on April 20th: “If you knew Hailey, you understand the boundless happiness she spread everywhere. For those who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her personally, Hailey adored the beach and traveling, although she truly disliked cold water.

Accompanying a series of pictures from various beaches, he commented, “Here are some cherished moments we experienced together, venturing across nearby and distant sandy coastlines, embarking on journeys that always seemed enchanting.

As a devoted follower, I can attest that Matt underlined the fact that the nursing content creator’s light and affection turned each moment into an indelible memory.

Amidst the destructive wildfires in Los Angeles, the firefighter, who was among the first responders, also conveyed a message to his deceased spouse.

I can’t help but feel your absence heavily,” he started. “Every time I believe my grief couldn’t go any deeper, it does. I long for you to be here so we could make the family memories we had envisioned together. My heart aches more than language allows me to express, and I eagerly anticipate the day when I can see you again.

He went on saying, “I owe you everything, you’ve always been and always will be my cherished guardian angel. My affection for you is boundless, Hailey.

After the arrival of Crew, who was conceived through in-vitro fertilization, Hailey sadly passed away due to issues arising from childbirth, as Matt announced.

On Instagram, he expressed, “I can’t put into words the sorrow I’m experiencing right now. For over 13 years, she’s been a constant companion through the toughest moments, showering me with unending love, even when I doubted myself. She was more than just my partner.

I too delved deeper into our parenthood voyage, highlighting with conviction the strong longing we harbored for becoming parents.

Following numerous years of battling infertility issues and a difficult IVF journey, we were filled with happiness upon learning that Crew was on the way,” he mused. “Hailey bravely tackled each obstacle with courage and love, despite her body enduring much hardship. Remarkably, she never lost her resolve.

He reminisced about the time he felt overwhelmed and apologized to her for any hardships that might come up, saying, “That moment is etched in my memory.” She gently touched his face, looked deep into his eyes, and responded with, “We’re a team, and we can handle this as one.” That was Hailey. A fighter. A partner. A woman who would go to great lengths for the people she cared about deeply.

Matt made a rare cameo in one of Hailey’s @rnnewgrads videos, where she showed off stylish scrubs. 

In September 2024, Hailey announced that she and Matt were going to be parents following a two-year struggle with IVF. On Instagram, she expressed, “The road has been tough, but every step has been absolutely worthwhile.

In a post she made on September 2024, Hailey expressed her gratitude by stating, “I’m fully aware that not everyone experiencing IVF gets the desired result. Yet, I feel incredibly fortunate and blessed because our initial transfer was successful.

Matt and Hailey rejoiced over their newborn son, Crew, at a winter baby shower surrounded by family. Hailey expressed her happiness on Instagram, saying, “Couldn’t have wished for a more enchanting forest-themed celebration for our little one!

In April 2025, Matt shared that Hailey had died just minutes after welcoming Crew via c-section. 

He expressed, in a message on Hailey’s nursing profile, that words fall short in expressing the profound sorrow he feels. Hailey exceeded all his expectations as a wife and companion.
