The spin-off titled “Roseanne” is due to broadcast its last episode on April 23, marking the end of its seven-season run on ABC. One of the show’s main actors recently shared her feelings about the significance of the series and the role she has played as Darlene Conner since “Roseanne” first aired in 1988, and what she will miss about it.
In an interview, Gilbert expressed her feelings about the series concluding, stating, “We have such a great time together and share plenty of laughter. The cast, crew, and writers all feel like family because we’ve been working on it for so long. It’s almost become a part of us, so the idea of being without it is difficult.
Gilbert on Why The Conners Resonates with Viewers
Personally, I find that the show, which portrays the Conner family after the unexpected passing of matriarch Roseanne, resonates deeply with fans because it offers a realistic depiction of an ordinary American family striving to make ends meet. As Gilbert pointed out, there’s a scarcity of such representations, and when they do exist, they often lack authenticity, with sets that seem too extravagant or characters who appear too affluent.
Gilbert mentioned that he appreciates the talent of our authors in addressing relatable topics with a delightful blend of humor and affection. He believes this creates an environment where readers can both laugh and feel comfortable with the characters.
The Crew Would Love to Get Back Together
As the last season of “The Conners” comes to a close, Lecy Goranson, who plays Becky Conner, has expressed in a past interview that she’s already brainstorming ideas for what comes next, not only for the cast but also for the crew. She shared, “I’m an optimist, and I can’t help but wonder, ‘How can we all stay together?’ I find it hard to accept that it’s over.
Laurie Metcalf, the actress who portrays Jackie Harris in The Conners, stated, “I find it intriguing if we were to split up into smaller groups for separate projects. It would be exciting to encounter each other in various guest roles on different shows from time to time. That sounds engaging.

A Conners Spinoff?
In another interview, Goranson expressed her desire for more than just a break; instead, she yearned for a spinoff series. She acknowledged that such an endeavor might be challenging, but she genuinely cherished the idea. She adores her co-stars and the entire crew immensely, having built a strong bond over a long period. In essence, they have become like family to her. As they spend so much time together, it’s not just a cliché; it truly feels that way. Goranson even arranged a happy hour gathering for the crew, and they often discuss when they can work together again, eagerly planning their next project. Their feelings are heartfelt and genuine.
The series finale of The Conners will air on April 23 on ABC.
