Ultraman ‘Confirmed’? New Superman Movie Villains Revealed!

Movies featuring Superman have pitted him against a variety of villains such as Lex Luthor, General Zod, and even a monster created from his own genetic material. However, only a few antagonists from the comics have appeared on the big screen so far. Since Superman first encountered a supervillain called the Ultra-Humanite in 1939’s Action Comics #13, he has safeguarded Metropolis and saved the world from adversaries like Brainiac, the Eradicator, Metallo, Parasite, Mongul, Bizarro, and more.

In the revitalized DC Universe I’m part of, my hero, Superman, gets some fresh adversaries. Besides Lex Luthor, CEO of LuthorCorp and a persistent thorn in Superman’s side as portrayed by Nicholas Hoult in James Gunn’s Superman, there are hints in the trailers about Simon Stagg, CEO of Stagg Industries and an enemy to Metamorpho. Also, there’s Maria Gabriela de Faría as the Authority’s Engineer with a body made of liquid nanites, a towering kaiju, the massive Hammer of Boravia, and a shrouded figure clashing with Superman in a baseball stadium. This masked individual is rumored to be Ultraman, my hero’s sinister counterpart.

In June, two new children’s books are set to debut, offering unique perspectives on the Boravian villain in armor and the elusive character rumored as Ultraman. The identity of this figure appears to be confirmed by a U-shaped emblem that bears a striking resemblance to his comic book counterpart (depicted above).

In the comics, there’s no direct equivalent to the Hammer of Boravia; however, his name and golden armor share similarities with less popular adversaries, Jackhammer and Armored Barrage.

In an update on Threads back in April, Gunn clarified the rumors about Ultraman clones by stating, “Surprisingly, the main character of Superman is indeed Superman himself. And, surprisingly, the main antagonist of Superman is Lex Luthor.

Gunn’s post stated, “I can’t figure out where all this new information is originating from, other than what we already know.” He continued, “There are so many conflicting reports being released daily that it’s hard to keep up. Every time I debunk something, I’m giving it credibility.” He added, “So, let me reiterate, don’t trust anything unless it’s confirmed here (and why would you want spoilers before the movie even releases?)”.

James Gunn, known for his unique storytelling, brings a fresh take on the classic superhero character within the DC universe. By skillfully combining intense action sequences, humor, and emotional depth, he creates a Superman who is motivated by empathy and faith in human goodness.

David Corenswet from the series Twisters is cast as Clark Kent/Superman opposite Rachel Brosnahan known for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult, recognized for his roles in the X-Men films, takes on Lex Luthor. Additionally, the film boasts Edi Gathegi from For All Mankind as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan from Gotham as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion from The Suicide Squad as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced from The Last of Us as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría from The Moodys as The Engineer, Skyler Gisondo from The Amazing Spider-Man as Jimmy Olsen. Alan Tudyk from Andor is featured as Robot 4, Wendell Pierce from The Wire portrays Perry White, and Frank Grillo from Creature Commandos plays Rick Flag Sr. in the movie.

On June 3, grab your copies of “Superman: Friends and Foes!” and “Superman: The Interactive Guide” in preparation for DC Studio’s “Superman” movie hitting theaters on July 11.
