In the upcoming Spring, Adult Swim will air Season 8 of the hit animated series, “Rick and Morty.” The first trailer hints at the introduction of a fresh version of the Citadel of Ricks. Previously, Season 7 brought significant changes to the established narrative of the show. Although each episode typically features Rick and Morty on a standalone adventure, Season 7 saw the resolution of many long-standing storylines that had been developing since earlier seasons.
In simpler terms, this implies that Rick and Morty Season 8 may choose to continue with a series of weekly adventures, or it could be setting up for a longer story arc leading towards its potential renewal for Season 12. A significant scene in the first trailer for Season 8 suggests that Rick variants are once again prominent, hinting at their possible reconstruction of the Citadel, which was destroyed by Evil Morty in Season 5.
Rick and Morty Season 8’s Citadel Returns Theory
The popular animated series Rick and Morty has unveiled its first trailer for Season 8, offering a comprehensive sneak peek into the upcoming episodes. A portion of the trailer showcases trouble brewing with various Rick characters causing mischief, such as a Mohawk-sporting Rick abducting a Morty in one scene. These Ricks have converged at an unusual location, orchestrated by a Southern or Texan-inspired Rick variant who commands his own Morty servants. However, the most intriguing aspect is the setting. Not only does it appear to be a potential new iteration of the Citadel, but there’s evidence of construction activity in the background as well.
Observing the wreckage, I can’t help but ponder if rebuilding the Citadel might not be such an outlandish notion. After all, while Evil Morty annihilated Rick’s interpretation of the multiverse by destroying the Citadel, it’s important to remember that this was merely one fragment within the vast tapestry of universes portrayed in the series. There remain countless Ricks and Mortys scattered across the multiverse, and since then, the scope has expanded to dimensions beyond even Rick’s grasp. This newfound magnitude offers an enticing prospect for introducing a menacing adversary far more formidable than either Evil Morty or Rick Prime. Rebuilding the Citadel could serve as the catalyst for this epic narrative unfolding.
This new setup might resemble the Citadel in some ways, but it’ll probably have a distinct identity and possibly a unique name. It could imply that multiple Ricks are uniting under one powerful Texan Rick, which aligns with the initial concept but with enough differences to cause concern. Additionally, it appears that another version of Rick is involved in this storyline too. This could be an opportunity to explore more about the various Rick counterparts from different universes. Regardless, fans should pay close attention to future developments as they unfold.
When Does Rick and Morty Season 8 Come Out?
The long-awaited eighth season of the popular animated series “Rick and Morty” is set to air soon on Adult Swim, starting from Sunday, May 25th at 11:00PM Eastern/Pacific Time. In addition, the new season will be accessible for streaming on Max and Hulu beginning September 1st this Fall. Co-creator Dan Harmon, showrunner Scott Marder, and a familiar voice cast including Justin Roiland (Rick), Chris Parnell, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke will be back for the new episodes. Previously, a few teasers from Season 8 were hinted at by the creators.
- Summer of All Fears
- Valkyrick
- The Rick, The Mort & The Ugly
- The Last Temptation of Jerry
- Cryo Mort a Ricker
- The Curicksous Case of Bethjamin Button
- Ricker Than Fiction
- Nomortland
- Morty Daddy
- Hot Rick
It’s challenging to predict which upcoming episode will introduce this new Citadel-like setting. The western-style title “The Rick, The Mort and the Ugly” might be fitting, considering the Ricks involved, or it could be something entirely different like “Nomortland,” appearing later in the season. However, since the series may embark on a fresh, long-lasting story arc, there are numerous possibilities where this episode could appear.
Rick and Morty is returning for Season 8! Life has renewed purpose again! Anything imaginable could occur! Watch out for adventures with Summer, Jerry, Beth, the other Beth, and possibly Butter Bot taking on a fresh mission. Whatever transpires, you can’t keep Rick and Morty away for long. Many have tried!
