Police have launched an investigation into the death of former child star Sophie Nyweide.
On April 19th, authorities confirmed the death of Nyweide after her body was discovered along a riverbank in Vermont, near a makeshift shelter known as a lean-to. This information was shared by the Bennington Police Department with TMZ on April 22nd. At the time of her passing, she was just 24 years old.
As per reports, Nyweide was frequently present near the temporary dwelling before her passing, rather than residing in it. This area was also frequented by others, including a certain individual whom the authorities have stated is neither a suspect nor a person of interest.
The exact reason for the death hasn’t been identified yet, as the autopsy findings and toxicology report are still awaited, according to the police. They also stated that they haven’t definitively ruled out any suspicious circumstances.
TopMob News has reached out to police for comment but hasn’t heard back.
As a child actor, Nyweide featured in various films such as “Margot at the Wedding” (2007), “Mammoth” (2009), “An Invisible Sign” (2010) and “Noah” (2014). Her most recent acting role was on the hidden camera show, “What Would You Do?” in 2015.
In her brief yet impactful life, Sophie, who was exceptionally talented, athletic, and mature beyond her age, achieved remarkable feats during her time here on Earth. The online tribute for Nyweide mentioned that she appeared most content when she was working on a film set, immersing herself in the character she portrayed.
However, Nyweide faced “struggles and traumas” in her later years, according to the obit.
Sophie was a compassionate and unsuspecting individual who frequently found herself vulnerable to exploitation by others due to her trusting nature. Over time, this led to her turning to self-medication as a means of coping with the pain and embarrassment she harbored within, ultimately leading to her demise.
In a touching tribute, Nyweide was referred to as a passionate explorer. The eulogy went on to say, “Her life was tragically cut short. Let her death not be in vain. Let us take lessons from her fleeting existence on this planet and strive for improvement.

At the 18th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival, Sophie was present at the RoC reception along with director Marilyn Agrelo and actress Emerald Angel Young.
