In Spring 2025’s anime season, Bones Film unveiled a prequel spin-off titled My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. His life undergoes a drastic change when he, along with renowned pop idol Kazuko Haneyama, are saved by an unauthorized hero named Knuckleduster. Impressed by Kouichi’s abilities, Knuckleduster persuades him to join forces and discover the origin of Trigger, a potent drug that enhances a user’s superpower but also causes them to lose control and become violent. Although what Knuckleduster does may not be lawful, his intentions are honorable. The public primarily recognizes the Pro Heroes, while the Vigilantes operate covertly for the welfare of the people. Unfortunately, there’s a heartbreaking explanation why Knuckleduster doesn’t work as a licensed hero.

In simpler terms, Knuckleduster is a middle-aged man, muscular and tall, with an impressive endurance-based ability that makes him punch incredibly hard, reminiscent of All Might. He often sports a grin. His raw power can effortlessly outmatch even villains who amplify their quirks through boosts. However, in Episode 2, he engages in a short confrontation with the renowned pro-hero, Eraserhead (Shoto Aizawa), who happens to cross paths with Knuckleduster and his crew during this series. Aizawa is a well-known character from the original storyline.

He attempts to capture these individuals who see themselves as villains and wreak havoc with their peculiar abilities. However, he discovers that his power doesn’t work on Knuckleduster, implying that his target is without a unique ability. Despite being taken aback by the incredible might of Knuckleduster, dealing with quirkless individuals goes against Aizawa’s duties as a hero. Heroes are tasked with preventing people from misusing their powers, not confronting those who lack them.

If someone lacking power creates a disturbance, it falls upon the local authorities to handle him. Interestingly, even after the earlier commotion, Knuckleduster aids the heroes by apprehending villains who are abusing the boost drug. The origin of this drug remains unknown, but the heroes refuse to retreat until the danger has been neutralized.
