Yet, some dedicated trainers might be speculating about blends between Pokemon and OMOCAT. Meanwhile, one artist has evoked a sense of longing for an overlooked chance at a grand collaboration through their nostalgic artwork.

In the late ’90s, the Pokemon anime made its appearance alongside another series, Cardcaptor Sakura, which became equally loved in Japan and the West. Written by CLAMP, this show follows the tale of a young girl who embarks on a magical journey. Similar to Ash, she’s given the task of capturing mystical creatures, and just like him, her spirited personality made her a beloved character among viewers.

In my excitement, I’d like to share that this fan art has given CLAMP’s classic style an updated twist, more akin to the contemporary flair from the Pokemon anime, particularly Pokemon Journeys. The clean linework, vibrant colors, and stunning eyelashes remind me of it, making it feel fresh yet nostalgic. If you’re familiar with Goh from Journeys, you might notice the resemblance. Interestingly, Sakura here bears facial characteristics and hair color similar to Serena, the female protagonist from XYZ.

Enthusiasts in the comments have been astonished, labeling the work as “an outstanding blend from our childhood”. In the tales I’ve witnessed, vibrant, lively settings and endearing characters serve as the canvas for narratives grounded in tough obstacles, reinforced by the themes of friendship and compassion guiding character actions. It’s intriguing to think that there were no joint merchandise collaborations back in the early 2000s; I believe such ventures would have resonated strongly among fans.

It would’ve been lovely to witness a scenario where Sakura teams up with her own starting team, or Ash dons one of Tomoyo’s homemade costumes. Such scenes would have beautifully complemented the artistic style that CLAMP is renowned for during their prime releases in the Cardcaptor and Tsubasa universes, making them ideal candidates for inclusion in their artbook collections.

Additionally intriguing would be a mini-animation depicting Ash and his squad engaging in a thrilling confrontation with Sakura and her Clow Cards. Given their complementary skills, they would make an exciting pair, with Sakura’s Clow Cards transforming into creatures reminiscent of Pokemon, featuring different types and unique abilities.

It’s unlikely that a collaboration between these two franchises will occur in 2025, as Pokémon has maintained its popularity and success, overshadowing Cardcaptor Sakura due to its frequent releases and the vast Pokémon brand empire. Instead, fans can appreciate Lukas Thadeu’s outstanding artwork and catch a glimpse of what might have been an extraordinary partnership.
