The upcoming film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Infinity Castle” is scheduled to be the initial part of a three-movie series based on the thrilling “Infinity Castle arc” from “Demon Slayer.” It’s set to debut in Japan on July 18th. Regrettably, global audiences, including those in the U.S., won’t get to watch it simultaneously, as the movie will not be broadcast worldwide. Instead, American fans will have to wait until September 12th to catch it in cinemas. On the other hand, some countries have been granted shorter waiting periods.
Under the guidance of director Haruo Sotozaki and production by Ufotable and Aniplex, the upcoming movie titled Infinity Castle promises intense sword fights, emotional climaxes, and Muzan’s grand finale inside Nakime’s Infinite Fortress. With fewer than 100 days remaining until its premiere, the series is building anticipation through daily updates on their official Twitter account @kimetsu_off. To take things a step further, they aim to break a Guinness World Record with a rice paddy art depicting Demon Slayer’s Tanjiro, covering an astounding 28,000 square meters in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture. This will surpass the record set in 2015.
Everything to Know About Demon Slayer’s Rice Paddy Art
In a unique Japanese artistic practice, individuals strategically sow different colored rice varieties to form large-scale images when the rice fields are flooded during summer. This art form originated from Inakadate Village in 1993, but Gifu City has gained renown for its expansive and intricately detailed designs that transform the paddies into stunning, pixel-precise canvases.
In 2015, the city secured the Guinness World Record for the largest rice paddy mural, measuring 27,195 square meters spanning three adjoining rice fields. This was created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest series, featuring characters well-known from this long-lasting role-playing game. A decade later, the city is preparing to surpass its own record with a 28,000 square meter artwork showcasing Tanjiro Kamado from the Demon Slayer series.
The art piece showcases Tanjiro striking mid-attack, with his patterned haori and sparkling Nichirin sword appearing vibrant in hues of green, brown, and burgundy. To coincide with the launch of Infinity Castle, planting will commence in early June. This ensures that the artwork blooms with peak colors around July 18th, 2025, making it a dynamic billboard from late July to mid-October as the movie premieres on that date.
Demon Slayer And Gyoda City Call For Volunteers
Because each stalk should correspond with a specific color scheme, it’s essential that the planting for this artwork is done by hand, under the supervision of experts. Given this, Gyoda City welcomes volunteers who are enthusiastic about rice paddy art or passionate fans of Demon Slayer, eager to be part of this significant moment in the franchise’s history. There’s no registration fee involved and no prior experience in rice planting is necessary. All you need are durable boots, clothing suitable for the weather, and a readiness to work outdoors, regardless of whether it’s raining or sunny.
You have the opportunity to volunteer for our project! While the position is unpaid, as a token of appreciation, we will send each volunteer a certificate and a bag of rice grown in our art field right to your doorstep in December. If you are interested, please register here. Registrations are accepted from April 7th until April 25th. However, please be aware that applicants must be Junior High School students or older residing in Japan.
After being planted, the Tanjiro mosaic will gradually reveal itself under the observation deck of the Ancient Lotus Hall, a place open to visitors for ¥400 (adults) and ¥200 (children). Every summer, countless people come to see these living masterpieces in person. However, for those who can’t travel or live far away, the official tourism website of Gyoda City will provide high-quality images, time-lapse videos, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content about the artwork, allowing everyone to experience this record-breaking spectacle online.
