Absolute Wonder Woman Teases Creation of Iconic Villain

In Absolute Wonder Woman, Diana has battled formidable foes such as Tetracide and deities themselves. However, until now, she hadn’t faced any of her traditional adversaries as antagonists. Characters like Circe and Barbara Ann Minerva have so far played different roles, but Absolute Wonder Woman #7 hinted at the possibility of Diana’s classic nemesis, Cheetah, joining the conflict. Readers beware, spoilers for Absolute Wonder Woman #7 are forthcoming; if you haven’t read the issue yet, consider yourself warned.

In The Lady and The Tiger: Part 2, I found myself thrust into an intriguing tale where the protagonist, Diana, finds herself battling for survival in the treacherous arena of Hades. Her opponent is a formidable foe – part human, part tiger, a lethal blend that serves as Hades’ ultimate champion. As the story unfolds, we discover that Diana has the support of Persephone, who places her trust in her success.

The creature presents Diana with a genuine test, inflicting wounds at various places and shifting the advantage to its side. It boasts lethal claws, a tail, and a mane resembling a tiger, complete with typical tiger stripes. At first sight, one might easily mistake it for a Cheetah.

Diana attempts to make the creature surrender, yet it persists in its actions. In addressing it, she expresses regret and refers to it as a ‘sister’. She also mentions that she isn’t certain about what transpired but suspects it wasn’t her decision. Taking charge of the battle, she declares that Hades shouldn’t use her death as a means to secure victory. However, Hades remains unyielding, asserting that only one person can exit the arena alive.

As a cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this: “Rest well in your next life, my sister,” I said, before delivering the final blow, concluding our struggle and securing the win. This fight has revealed that Hades can transform humans into animal-like champions, and now he’s one less.

In my humble opinion, the flames of conflict intensify dramatically when Diana outwits Hades, leaving him admitting, “This confrontation is far from over, princess. Your actions have been misguided and I am now a determined adversary.” This revelation signifies that Hades has marked Diana as his prime target, a fact that was all too evident in the case of Circe. Consequently, anyone who holds significance to Diana or is part of her inner circle can expect to be under scrutiny and potentially in danger.

Among all the characters, it’s unmistakably Barbara who stands out, even though we haven’t delved deeply into her personality yet. She’s been introduced, but she isn’t the Cheetah right now. If Hades is aiming to regain his lost pride after a humiliating defeat, he might choose to retaliate in a way that would really sting, and transforming a character close to Diana into a deadly cheetah hybrid would be an effective method for doing so. Given his powers, it’s within his reach.
