Sony has begun releasing a fresh firmware upgrade for the PlayStation 5, which includes the debut of an innovative feature called “Audio Focus” and the return of vintage PlayStation-themed backgrounds for the main menu.
Players can now customize their audio experience using Audio Focus, offering a range of options based on personal preference. This functionality is primarily designed for use with headphones and headsets, which can be activated by navigating to Settings > Sound > Volume > Audio Focus. Among the choices provided are four distinct presets for players to select from.
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
- Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
- Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic noises.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.
Alongside the presets available, users can additionally choose the level of assistance for each preset, ranging from Weak, Medium, and Strong. This new function allows players to effortlessly differentiate various sounds within a game, such as amplifying dialogue over background music or improving one’s ability to hear enemy movements in multiplayer games.
Now, PS5 users can enjoy a blast from the past with four fresh themes inspired by classic PlayStation consoles on their home screen. These themes alter the backdrop images and color schemes of certain user interface components.
By selecting the PlayStation option, you will display an iconic PlayStation backdrop, featuring shades of grey throughout the user interface. In contrast, opting for the PS2 version showcases the pixelated design of the PS2’s home screen, with vibrant purple highlights. Lastly, choosing the PS4 alternative presents a standard PS4 background, complemented by crisp blue accents.
During our 30th anniversary festivities, we offered a special treat to our fans by temporarily adding vintage customization options for the PS5 interface as a tribute to the four PlayStation systems that laid the groundwork for the PS5: the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. This was shared on the PlayStation Blog by Hiroshi Kikuchi, Vice President of Product Management at SIE.
It’s important to mention that not everyone might have access to the update right away because Sony has indicated that they are releasing it progressively to all PS5 users.
Recently, Sony declared an increase in the cost of PS5 consoles in specific European, Australian, and New Zealand areas. This adjustment follows similar price increases for PlayStation Plus memberships, which were announced for Australia, Southeast Asia, and fifteen Latin American nations.
