Pat Sajak, previously known for hosting America’s popular game, will now be returning with another engaging offering: Solving yet another intriguing American murder mystery.
Approximately a year following his departure from “Wheel of Fortune“, television hosting icon will appear in a revival of the 1962 play “Prescription: Murder” at a community theater in Hawaii, running from July 31 to August 10. This production is believed to have served as an inspiration for the popular detective TV series “Columbo”.
In this production, a 78-year-old actor takes on the role of the exceptionally clever psychiatrist Dr. Roy Flemming, who devised a cunning scheme to kill his wife and created an ironclad alibi. Meanwhile, his old friend Joe Moore assumes the part of Lt. Columbo, the investigator, as detailed in a summary provided by the Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu.
Known primarily for his work on game shows, Sajak is also experienced in acting. He’s often made guest appearances on shows like “The A-Team” and “The King of Queens”, but he’s also shared the stage with Joe in multiple plays over the years at the Hawaii Theatre.
Pat Sajak, who was previously associated with America’s favorite game, will be stepping back to present another American favorite: a captivating murder mystery.
A year following his departure from Wheel of Fortune, the legendary TV host will appear in a remake of the 1962 play Prescription: Murder, which served as the foundation for the popular detective series Columbo, at a community theater in Hawaii from July 31 to Aug. 10.
78-year-old actor takes on the role of “exceptionally clever psychiatrist Dr. Roy Flemming,” who meticulously schemes to kill his wife and creates an impeccable alibi, as stated in a summary released by the Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu. His friend, Joe Moore, is cast as Lt. Columbo, the investigator.
As a diehard fan, let me tell you that Sajak isn’t just about hosting game shows; acting is another string to his bow. He’s popped up quite often on shows like The A-Team and The King of Queens, but what truly captivates me are the plays he’s done with Joe over the years at the Hawaii Theatre. It’s not every day you see a game show host transform into a theater actor!
The film “Prescription: Murder” represents Pat Sajak’s initial significant endeavor following his departure from “Wheel of Fortune” in July 2024, where he had hosted the popular game show for an impressive 41 years.
He acknowledged that people might not be eagerly seeking him out for roles,” he said during an interview with KHON in Hawaii in 2023, right before he collaborated with Moore on a remake of the 1972 play The Sunshine Boys, “but he’ll gladly accept projects if they come his way.
In a playful manner, he jested about his future beyond “Wheel of Fortune“, saying, “I think I’ll spend much of my time carving on the veranda. The problem is, I don’t know how to carve and I don’t possess a veranda. So it seems like an intriguing dilemma.
As Sajak steps back onto the stage, it’s important to note that he hasn’t completely departed from the “Wheel of Fortune” family. You can catch him hosting season five of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune”, which airs on April 30 on ABC.
