Following our thrilling escapade on Egghead and battling the majestic Five Elders, it felt like any future adversary in the world of One Piece would pale in comparison. However, despite the brilliance of the Egghead Saga, the Elbaf Arc is holding its own with fresh, equally engaging opponents for Luffy and his Straw Hat crew: the Holy Knights, a long-awaited addition to the series, who have just been introduced with four new members. Although they rank below the Five Elders in terms of prestige and power, the latest chapter of One Piece hints that they could still be significantly more formidable than they appear.
In chapter 1146 of “One Piece”, Gunko demonstrates a healing power similar to the Five Elders, as shown by the same crackling sounds heard when St. Nusjuro healed in chapter 1120. In this particular chapter, Gunko is struck by one of Usopp’s explosive stars, causing severe damage to her upper body and head. Yet, undeterred, Gunko swiftly recovers from the attack and heals almost immediately, just like the Five Elders. So far, Gunko appears to be the only one with this ability, but it’s plausible that other Holy Knights share this regenerative power, which could potentially pose problems for the Giants and the Straw Hats in the future.
One Piece Gives the Holy Knights a Game-Changing Five Elder Ability
To this point, the main distinction between the Holy Knights and the Five Elders lies not only in their rank but also in the fact that the latter have demonstrated immortality, regeneration, and demonic transformations. Although the Holy Knights too boast impressive devil fruit powers, it’s fair to assume that none of Shamrock, Gunko, Killingham, or Sommers’ abilities can match the terrifying transformations of the Five Elders. This discrepancy places them in a lower tier, increasing the likelihood that they could be defeated by the Giants and Straw Hats.
The idea that all Holy Knights might share the same regenerative abilities as the Five Elders significantly alters the dynamics, making them virtually invincible. Whether the Holy Knights are also immortal or ageless like the Five Elders is still uncertain, but since Shanks and Shamrock look the same age despite being twins, they might not be. This distinction seems reasonable because it limits immortality to those who ascend to the Five Elders’ rank, a requirement that keeps the World Government in balance.
No matter if they’re immortal or not, the Holy Knights have become significantly harder to defeat, and given how easily Gunko overpowered Nami, Usopp, Brook, and Jinbe, it seems that Elbaf might face total annihilation. However, there’s still a glimmer of hope for the Straw Hat trio to overcome the three Holy Knights, particularly with Gaban and Loki on their side. The world of One Piece, though, is about to witness some incredibly tough battles in the near future.
