In the upcoming installment of the popular action film series, Tom Cruise is giving it everything he’s got – perhaps a sign of his swan song. The latest character posters hint at Cruise performing his most daring stunt ever within the franchise.
Through a post, Paramount revealed character posters for “The Final Reckoning,” showcasing Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt among others. One poster depicts Cruise precariously hanging onto a plane, hinting at his real-life stunt on a plane that has drawn attention lately. Additional character posters offer new glimpses of some of Cruise’s longtime “Mission: Impossible” co-stars like Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell and Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, along with fresh faces such as Hannah Waddingham, who takes on an unspecified role.
Tom Cruise has repeatedly pushed his limits throughout the Mission: Impossible movie franchise, surpassing himself in the latest installment, Dead Reckoning, by performing daring feats such as speedflying and biking off a cliff. But Cruise raised the bar even higher with his plane stunt, where he attempted to maintain a firm hold on the wing of the aircraft while it was flying at 8,000 feet and traveling at top speed. The director, commenting recently in a sneak peek, expressed that “it’s hard to comprehend just how grueling it was for Tom to be up there on the wing.
During “The Final Reckoning,” the 62-year-old Cruise demonstrated an unwavering dedication to authenticity by persuading McQuarrie to redo hazardous stunts in order to perfect them, thus ensuring that the action appeared as genuine as possible.
In the sequel to “Dead Reckoning,” titled “The Last Reckoning,” Ethan and his IMF team persist in pursuing the AI-controlled villain, the Entity, and its associate, Gabriel (Esai Morales). Joining forces with regular allies such as Stickell, Grace (Hayley Atwell), and others including Simon Pegg, Ethan additionally receives aid from a former adversary, Paris (Pom Klementieff), who decides to assist in defeating the primary antagonist. The film also includes cameos by actors from “Fallout,” namely Angela Bassett (Erika Sloane), Shea Whigham (Jarred Briggs), Greg Tarzan Davis (Degas) and Vanessa Kirby (Alanna Mitsopolis).
Will This Be the Last Mission: Impossible for Ethan Hunt?
As a die-hard Mission: Impossible fan, I can’t help but wonder if “The Final Reckoning” is the grand finale of this epic franchise. The suspense is killing me and I’m urging all fellow fans to catch this movie to uncover the truth once and for all. If “The Final Reckoning” turns out to be the swan song, Paramount Pictures aims to send off the series with an explosive finale, hoping to recoup its massive $400 million investment. Fingers crossed that “The Final Reckoning” surpasses the 96% critical acclaim of “Dead Reckoning” on Rotten Tomatoes!
The Final Reckoning opens in theaters on May 23.
