Bain is on the right track, baby.
At the culmination of K-pop group Just B’s “Just Odd World Tour”, their 23-year-old bandmate announced that he identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community, becoming one of the earliest active K-pop artists to openly declare his sexuality as gay.
During a solo show at Vermont Hollywood Hall in Los Angeles, Bain expressed something onstage (as captured in an Instagram post on April 24). He said, ‘I’d like to tell you all something I’m incredibly proud of: I identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, being gay myself.’
Meanwhile, as the crowd roared with thunderous applause, and a spectator exuberantly brandished a Pride banner close to the platform, Bain acknowledged his gratitude towards one of his major influencers by giving them a small nod.
A big shout-out goes to Lady Gaga,” he exclaimed, making clear that she was the one who taught him that embracing differences makes one beautiful, much like herself in her song “Abracadabra.
Currently, Bain aims to instill the same bravery within his supporters, encouraging them to wholeheartedly accept who they truly are.
To all those within the LGBTQ+ community, or those still exploring their identity, this message is for you. Additionally, it’s for everyone as well!
He finished by saying, “Your uniqueness is noticed, your worth is cherished,” and with a final gesture towards the three-time Grammy honoree, he added, “You’ve always been who you are meant to be.
After the band’s show, as reported by NBC News, Siwoo, Bain’s fellow band member, expressed his backing by writing a heartfelt note on a popular South Korean fan site.

Prior to Bain, the K-pop scene had only a handful of LGBTQ+ stars who publicly identified themselves. Notable figures include Jiae from the disbanded group Wassup, who declared her bisexuality in 2020, and Holland, who made his debut in 2018 with a daring music video that showcased a same-sex kiss.
In an interview with British Vogue in 2020, Holland stated that when they were younger, there weren’t any well-known Korean idol singers who had publicly identified as LGBTQ+. During their school years, and especially during difficult times, Western LGBTQ+ pop artists had a significant impact on them. Recognizing the need for representation in Korea, they knew we needed someone like that.
