The Princeton University community is mourning a loss.
It’s been reported by university authorities that Lauren Blackburn, a 23-year-old English student attending an Ivy League institution, was tragically discovered deceased in a campus lake on April 25th.
In a press release on April 25th, Dean Regan Crotty expressed his profound sadness by announcing the tragic discovery of student Lauren Blackburn ’26 at Lake Carnegie this morning. He conveyed that our community is feeling the weight of this loss and extends its deepest sympathies to Lauren’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Beyond providing shared counseling resources for students impacted by the incident, Crotty also expressed that we all extend our sympathies to Lauren’s family, companions, and dear ones, hoping they find courage during this challenging period.
No cause of death was given.
Previously, it was announced that Blackburn had gone missing, prompting the University’s Department of Public Safety to initiate a search operation, as stated by the school’s Vice President for Student Life, W. Rochelle Calhoun.
In a heartfelt message, I’m reaching out to share my worry as I inform you about Lauren Blackburn ’26 from New College West who has gone missing. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently conducting a thorough search, and they’ve recently activated a Tiger Alert across our campus community for this purpose.
Previously, officials stated that before his disappearance on April 19 (evening), Blackburn was last spotted in the vicinity of a campus library while dressed casually in blue jeans with frayed knees, a yellow t-shirt, and a black hoodie with a hood.
In the year 2019, at the age of 23, he graduated as the top student from Corydon Central High School in Corydon, Indiana. This achievement earned him a Gates Scholarship, a grant that covered his tuition, textbooks, accommodation, and meals at Princeton University, as reported by local news station WAVE.
In 2019, Blackburn shared that his fondness for Princeton stemmed from their dedication to undergraduates. He expressed deep gratitude and felt incredibly fortunate. At Princeton, he could explore any field and receive a top-tier education in whatever subject he chose.
