WWE Reveals John Cena’s First Title Match Date and Opponent on SmackDown

John Cena kicked off tonight’s WWE SmackDown as expected, but his speech was cut short by none other than Randy Orton, who had given him an RKO the previous Monday Night Raw. In the ring, they exchanged words before a match between them for the Undisputed WWE Championship was officially set. This battle will take place at WWE BackLash, scheduled for May 10th.

At BackLash, happening in St. Louis – Orton’s home turf – The Viper can expect an exceptionally enthusiastic welcome. Cena acknowledged the hometown edge but provoked Orton by stating he wouldn’t move any nearer to the Title than his current position, which angered Orton.

During their heated conversation, Cena consistently attempted to provoke Orton by reminding him that if Cena were to win the Championship, it would stop Orton’s title count at 14 because he’d need to begin anew with the new Championship. While this isn’t technically accurate, Cena’s words had a significant impact as Orton clearly showed signs of anger.

In a heated exchange, Orton confronted Cena by expressing his displeasure with Cena’s speeches, stating that he would rather die than let Cena claim the Title. As the situation escalated, Cena proceeded to antagonize the crowd and hurl insults at them, particularly a child and his family who had given him the middle finger, which he publicly criticized.

At tonight’s event, Cena retaliated for Monday’s incident by attacking Orton viciously on the mat. He even went as far as to create a hole in the mat with his stomping! However, things took an unexpected turn when Cena attempted to strike back with the Championship, but Orton swiftly dodged the attack and delivered an RKO instead, leaving the Champion unconscious once more.

Currently, Orton aims to clinch his 15th WWE Championship title at the upcoming WWE Backlash event, effectively neutralizing Cena’s potential departure from the company while holding this prestigious championship. As of now, their match is a straightforward one-on-one encounter without any additional conditions, but with some weeks remaining, there’s always a possibility that extra elements could be introduced to the mix.

For other matches during the Backlash event, it looks like Tiffany Stratton vs Jade Cargill and a potential rematch for the WWE Women’s Championship might be on the cards. Additionally, there could be title defenses for the Tag Team Championships and Intercontinental Championship with Street Profits and Dominik Mysterio respectively holding onto their Titles. We’ll find out more as we get closer to the event.
