Yesterday marked the release of the Accessory Pouch Special Collection in the Prismatic Evolutions series, and as expected, it’s been swiftly sold out at most stores, including Target where the online stock was depleted rapidly. Interestingly, there is one item from the Prismatic Evolutions lineup still available from Target currently, but with a significant condition attached. It appears that Target has restocked the Prismatic Evolutions Poster Collection, though it comes with a hefty price increase – the largest markup we’ve noticed yet from one of the big box retailers.
On Target’s online platform, there’s now availability for the “Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions Poster Collection.” Priced at $39.99, this compact set consists of 3 Kanto Eevelution foil promo cards, a poster, and 3 “Prismatic Evolutions” boosters. Normally, the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for this collection is roughly $15 USD, indicating that Target is asking approximately double the market value. While retailers such as GameStop and local card shops have occasionally inflated prices, this latest listing from Target stands out as one of the most excessive markups not typical in the regular market. It’s sparked attention among fans.
Target has lost it. $40 for this. Retail is around $15.

According to this article, some Pokemon enthusiasts believe that Target has gone too far with its recent pricing of the Prismatic Evolutions item. This price is more akin to what resellers aim for rather than what other retailers offer. On secondary markets like TCG Player and eBay, the Poster Collection ranges from $30 to $250, depending on the source. However, in contrast, GameStop and Best Buy still display the set at $14.99, although they are currently out of stock.
Prismatic Evolutions Prices Just Keep Rising
A Pokemon card collector supposedly contacted Target regarding the pricing of their cards and was told that the price is determined based on what Target’s competitors are charging. However, this raises an intriguing question: Who does Target view as its competition in this specific case? Given that other large retailers aren’t currently stocking the Poster Collection and have listed it at a significantly lower $15 price point, the pricing seems to align more closely with resellers rather than other physical stores.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed some speculation among fellow enthusiasts suggesting that the listing might not be from the original manufacturer, but rather a reseller. However, the website doesn’t seem to make it clear that this gaming set is third-party sourced. To my understanding, it appears to be sold directly by Target, priced at $39.99.
To highlight, Target is currently selling the Paldean Fates Booster Bundle for $66.99, which significantly exceeds the original manufacturer’s suggested price of $27 for this set. Similarly, Amazon has a Paldean Fates Booster priced higher, indicating that it isn’t just the Prismatic Evolutions set from Scarlet & Violet that Target and other retailers are increasing prices on.
Currently, the “Prismatic Evolutions Poster Collection” priced at $40 remains available, possibly due to its high cost discouraging both enthusiasts and potential resellers from purchasing. Since resellers would not gain a profit from the cards at this price, it could be an advantage to set them at such a high price. However, collectors generally balk at paying more than the item’s actual worth, so it will be intriguing to observe how long this item stays on Target’s shelves compared to recent releases like the Accessory Pouch.
People who are eagerly waiting for more chances to acquire Prismatic Evolutions will have another opportunity when the new Prismatic Evolutions Super Premium Collection goes live on May 16th. This release is expected to hit stores, along with additional restocks from the collection. However, it remains to be seen if retailers will match Target’s move and sell these items for above their Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) due to increased demand.
