The beloved series Avatar: The Last Airbender is gearing up for a resurgence on various platforms. On television, the new Avatar following Korra’s journey will lead in Avatar: Seven Havens. In cinemas next year, there will be a fresh animated film titled The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, focusing on Aang and his companions in their mature years. Moreover, a new Avatar comic book is set to debut next month, delving deeper into one of the most peculiar and amusing multiverses within the bending world. This upcoming Free Comic Book Day looks promising for fans of benders!
Ramen Rumble
In this freshly minted tale, Dark Horse Comics revisits the peculiar universe where Momo is a Ronin and Appa is a Samurai. These unique versions of the reliable animal companions debuted in the third season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, when Aang, under immense pressure due to his impending battle against Fire Lord Ozai, hallucinated seeing them. In the forthcoming free comic book, it seems that this portrayal of Appa and Momo exists in a human-inhabited world, continuing their struggle against the Fire Nation, much like their human comrades from the series.
A Free Avatar Comic For The Ages
The Last Airbender — Ramen Rumble,” these characters traverse the Four Nations, rectifying issues as they go. They arrive at a beleaguered Fire Nation noodle house where the patrons are more formidable than the owner desires. Will Appa and Ronin manage to bring order amidst chaos, and perhaps even secure their meal in the process? Or will they be forced to leave? This comic book will be available on Free Comic Book Day, which takes place at participating retailers on Saturday, May 3rd.
Will Momo And Appa Return?
As I eagerly anticipate the return of Aang and his crew on the big screen next year, January 30th, 2026, I can’t help but wonder if our beloved characters like Appa and Momo will be joining them. Although the Nickelodeon series didn’t explicitly disclose the lifespan of Sky Bisons and Winged Lemurs in the bending world, it’s a hopeful thought that they lived long enough to witness Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph reach adulthood. Crossing my fingers for their return too, as I can’t imagine the Avatar’s story without these charming companions by his side!
Indeed, aside from the animate spin-offs expanding the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe, Netflix is actively developing seasons two and three of their live-action remake. They’re using CG to breathe life into Momo and Appa, but since production on season two is ongoing, it may take a while before we witness these live-action bender creatures reappear.
