The offspring of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have inherited not only their father’s red locks, but also their mother’s green thumb for gardening.
On Instagram, April 27th, the Duchess of Sussex posted pictures showing her son, Archie (who turns 5 this year), and daughter, Lilibet (age 3), plucking roses from their own garden.
In a casual yet elegant outfit featuring loose golden-copper hair and a soft pink blouse, Lilibet stands next to her mother while the Netflix celebrity offers her a newly plucked pink rose straight from a lush bush.
Another set of images depict Archie, a boy with short, darker reddish hair and dressed in a dark blue shirt and black trousers, inspecting a bush filled with cream roses that have pink ends – reminiscent of the hybrid rose named after Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Subsequently, these images show him picking up a large cut blossom from the bush.
The pictures display Archie, a young lad with short dark-red hair and dressed in dark blue attire and black pants, scrutinizing a bush laden with cream roses having pink tips that resemble the hybrid rose named after Harry’s deceased mother, Princess Diana. Later on, these images reveal him holding aloft a large, severed blossom from the bush.
“Sunday kind of love,” Meghan captioned her post, “with my little loves.”
Previously known for her acting roles, she resides with her family in sunny Southern California and expresses their shared passion for gardening on her Netflix program titled “With Love, Meghan“, which debuted in March.
Meghan Markle, formerly of Suits, shared that Archie and Lilibet (affectionately known as Lili) have their unique gardening tools and show a serious interest in gardening. She additionally mentioned that their daughter has a fondness for the color pink.
Although Archie and Lilibet aren’t featured in the show “With Love, Meghan“, filmed at a neighbor’s house, the duchess occasionally gives sneak peeks of them through her Instagram posts. She resumed using Instagram again on New Year’s Day after a significant break.
Over the weekend, Meghan shared a seldom-seen video showing Lilibet assisting in making strawberry jam at home. In this video, the young girl, who shares an American accent with her mother and sibling, can be heard commenting about the boiling sweet sauce. As the former ‘Suits’ actress has mentioned on her program, she has helped make this same jam with Lilibet before.
Read on for more revelations from With Love, Meghan.
Meghan Markle, who is well-known for her love of jams, shared that her interest in preserving grew after she and Prince Harry settled into their home in Montecito, California. She explained this during the second episode of “With Love, Meghan,” while picking berries, stating, “These vines were here when we moved in, which is what sparked my jam and preserve-making.” As for her preferred preserve, it remains undisclosed.
The Duchess of Sussex mentioned that her grandmother used to make apple butter, which she finds sentimental. Now, her children, Archie and Lilibet, get to witness this tradition being carried on. She added that the smell of slow-cooked fruit will become a comforting association for them, reminding them of their return from school. Interestingly, Lili has also tried her hand at making preserves. In fact, Meghan and Lili made a batch of strawberry preserve together, with Lili eagerly participating in the process, proudly stirring and mashing the fruit.
It turns out that Harry, who occasionally appears on the show, is not just skilled at acting but also has a knack for cooking, particularly breakfast dishes. Additionally, Megan shared some details about how Prince Harry prefers his food seasoned. She mentioned that regardless of what meal is served to him, he always adds salt before tasting it, and in response, she tries to keep the salt level low when preparing meals for him.
In terms of her fashion choices, Meghan expressed a liking for a style commonly known as “high-low”, which involves blending luxury items with more affordable pieces. For instance, during the episode where she hosted Mindy Kaling for a tea party, she revealed that she wore pants from Zara, a top from Loro Piana, and a sweater by Jenni Kayne.
As a devoted follower, I appreciate how the series not only highlights Meghan’s passion for hosting, cooking, gardening, and decorating, but it also uncovers some of her lesser-known interests.
For instance, in one episode, she organizes a game night with her friends, where they have taken up playing mahjong together recently. As she shared, “We’ve been learning mahjong together over the past few months. Mahjong originated in China during the 1800s, and we play an adaptation called American mahjong. What I find so delightful about mahjong is not just the game itself, but the experience of learning something new with friends and watching as camaraderie blossoms against the backdrop of this engaging activity.”
In another episode, her friend Vicky Tsai from Tatcha mentioned that Meghan enjoys playing pickleball, while the duchess herself disclosed some of her favorite music genres.
In the fifth episode, Meghan stated her preference for a vast amount of ’70s soft rock, yacht rock, and soul music, along with an unusual taste for French music played during dinner parties. Regarding food, she mentioned that her tolerance for spice is exceptionally high.
From an early age, our resources were limited, but we still managed to travel extensively,” she explained. “My mother was a travel agent, which meant we got to sample countless cuisines and explore diverse locations. One dish that stands out is gumbo, a Soul food specialty known for its rich flavors and spicy kick. I have developed a strong fondness for such intense flavors and heat levels. Consequently, I am sharing my culinary preferences with my family, but I find myself particularly drawn to this kind of spice.
In episode two, Meghan reminisced about her upbringing, saying, “It seems like another era now, but back then, it was completely normal for me to consume a lot of fast food and TV tray dinners. I’d often eat Pollo Loco, Taco Bell (with extra hot sauce on the Mexican pizza), and Jack in the Box because my mom really enjoyed their tacos.
Additionally, she didn’t just recall memories from her childhood; Meghan also talked about her experience as a Girl Scout.
She mentioned that she had been a Girl Scout for quite some time, tracing her journey back to when she was around 5 or 6 as a Daisy. Her mother served as the leader for Troop 949, and she sold an impressive number of cookies during her tenure.
Following their retirement from active royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan retained their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
In her book, With Love, Meghan, she expressed the significance behind their Sussex title for her.
“It’s amusing that you keep referring to me as Meghan Markle,” Meghan said to Mindy in episode two. “Remember, I’m Sussex now. When you have kids, you say, ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t realize how meaningful it would be for me, but it means so much to say, ‘This is our family name. Our little family name.’
As a lifestyle expert, allow me to share some fascinating glimpses into the everyday life of Archie and Lili, as revealed by their mother, Meghan, in her recent series.
Meghan, a loving mom of two, shed light on their shared passion for gardening. She mentioned that both kids have their very own tools and take their green-thumb activities quite seriously.
In episode five, she also spoke about Lili’s catchy cleaning tune: “Clean as you go,” Meghan said. “‘Clean as you go. Clean, clean, clean, clean, clean as you go.'”
Furthermore, Meghan opened up about making sun tea with Archie and the time he caught a trout while fishing. She also emphasized her joy in cooking with her children, sharing that these shared moments are integral to her vision for their growth and creating lasting memories together.
“It’s so much a part of what I want them to learn and have these great formative memories of being there with me,” she said in episode five. “‘Oh mama used to make this.’
As I look back on my journey, even before becoming an actress or a duchess, I was just a teenage girl working at Humphrey Yogart, my very first job.
In the hazy days of my youth, I also had the pleasure of working at a humble doughnut shop called Lil Orbits Donuts. The aroma of those miniature treats still takes me back to simpler times.
And when I was in college, you could find me juggling books and bills as a bar employee in Chicago. Little did I know that my role as the coat-check girl would soon evolve into serving cocktails! However, a tricky martini order left me flustered, leading my boss to suggest I return to my original position.
But it wasn’t all struggle and confusion; I also found myself teaching gift-wrapping classes as I started out in the world of acting.
In episode four, Meghan, while hosting an event with Nacho Figueras’ wife Delfina Blaquier, shares her thoughts on her time spent abroad. She expresses that her fondness for Argentina might be due to its similarities to California, particularly the presence of mountains and a shared exuberance for life and outdoor living. Although she was there only for a short stint interning at the U.S. embassy, she found herself deeply drawn to it.
Meghan portrayed Rachel Zane in the show ‘Suits’ from 2011 to 2018, and that moment she discovered she was relocating to Toronto for the part remains etched in her memory.
In the second episode, she remarked: “It turns out it’s chosen for broadcast, and it’s located in Toronto. Alright, what does that mean?” she said. Translated, it seems like her show will run for a season in Toronto. That’s exciting! If it gets renewed for another season, I wonder if my life will be relocating to this new place. Fortunately, I have fondness for Canada, and I’ve always tried to bring the cast over or meet people at the dog park with their pets from there. Interestingly, her co-star Abigail Spencer appears in one of the episodes of ‘With Love, Meghan’.
In January, it was shared that Meghan’s cherished dog, Guy, had sadly passed away. This affectionate beagle featured in several episodes of the Netflix series, and Meghan often spoke about her deep affection for him.
As she expressed in episode four, “I would do anything for Guy, and he knows it.” He was a versatile companion who could adapt to various roles on different days – sweet guy, silly guy, saucy little guy, always spoiled guy.
He was an ever-present friend by her side. In episode five, she said, “Guy’s just always there. He’s my shadow, and he’s been with me for a very long time.” Guy had accompanied Meghan from Toronto to the UK, back to Canada, and finally to California. As such, he had many stories to tell.
After the final episode concluded, Meghan paid tribute to Guy by adding “in loving memory of Guy” as a note.
