One of Randy’s crucial guidelines for surviving horror films is to never, not even once, say “I’ll be back soon,” because you likely won’t return. However, popular ex-Woodsboro sheriff Dewey Riley (David Arquette) will indeed be returning in Scream 7. Deadline reported last month that Arquette will reprise his character in the upcoming film, joining Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher and Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger, who were both previously killed in earlier sequels.
Arquette explained to Coming Soon that the announcement about Dewey’s return from the dead in Scream 7 was like a spoiler. He wasn’t intended to be revealed. It was meant to be a secret and a surprise.
The actor mentioned, “I can’t discuss it too extensively, but it was truly a treat to have Kevin Williamson directing. Given that he created the franchise, wrote for Wes Craven-directed movies like Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), and Scream 4 (2011), it’s fantastic to see him given this chance. Plus, having Neve [Campbell] and Matthew [Lillard] back in the mix is just amazing. And playing Dewey? I can’t wait!
Although some aspects of “Scream 7” might have been spoiled, what remains unspoiled is the return of former Ghostface killers Stu (Lillard), Roman (Foley), and Dewey, a victim turned Ghostface, who seemingly perished in the 2022 sequel “Scream”. In contrast to previous installments, it was Stu’s partner in crime, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), who made an appearance as Dewey’s father from beyond the grave in both “Scream” of 2022 and “Scream VI” of 2023.
In the seventh installment of the Scream series, titled Scream 7, we see the return of Sidney Prescott, played by Campbell, to the franchise. The previous movie, set in New York City, primarily focused on sisters Sam and Tara, portrayed by Jenna Ortega.
In this upcoming film, we see the reunion of Sidney Prescott, the original final girl portrayed by Neve Campbell, and Gale Weathers, another seasoned Ghostface survivor played by Courteney Cox. They are joined once more by the twins Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), who are the relatives of Randy Meeks, a character known for his love of horror movies, played by Jamie Kennedy. Whether or not Randy makes another appearance, this time possibly as a spirit, is something to look forward to in the film.
The following actors have joined the show’s cast: Joel McHale from “Community,” who plays Sidney’s husband, Mark Evans; Isabel May known for “Yellowstone” spinoffs like “1883” and “1923,” portrays Sidney’s daughter. Anna Camp of “Pitch Perfect,” Mark Consuelos from “Riverdale,” Ethan Embry of “Grace and Frankie,” Asa Germann of “Gen V,” Sam Rechner from “The Fabelmans,” Michelle Randolph of “Landman,” Celeste O’Connor from “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” and Mckenna Grace from “Sunrise on the Reaping” have been cast in unspecified roles.
The seventh installment of the Scream series, titled Scream 7, will be released in cinemas on February 27, 2026. This film is directed by Williamson and penned by Guy Busick, who previously worked on Scream and Scream VI. They collaborated with James Vanderbilt on the storyline for this movie.
