In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Battlehorn Castle is just one of the numerous dwellings available for your character.
Initially, the castle was available as a downloadable content (DLC) for the game. But luckily, the Remastered version includes it within the main game. So, with a bit of exploration, you can have the castle as your starting residence in the game itself!
Continue reading and we’ll guide you through the process of constructing Battlehorn Castle and acquiring all its enhancements, including the Dwemer Forge.

Becoming the Owner
To claim ownership of Battlehorn Castle, you first need to embark on and finish its brief quest. To initiate it, head west from the Imperial City until you find the Black Road. Proceed along the Black Road past Chorrol, and continue going west till the end. Remember, the North Country Stable serves as a quick travel point in this area too.
As soon as you get to the western end of the Black Road, a notification about a nearby castle under siege will pop up automatically. Take on this mission by making it your active quest and proceed accordingly.
Head slightly northwest from the location where the quest was given, and you’ll find yourself at Battlehorn Castle. A group of raiders is attempting to breach its walls. Assist the castle guards in repelling this attack! Remember not to mistakenly attack and eliminate the NPCs marked as Battlehorn Man-at-Arms. They are the castle defenders, working to protect the fortress. These guards are also quite formidable, so they can handle much of the fighting if you’re not well-equipped.
After taking care of the Marauders, converse with the guards stationed at the castle. They’ll inform you that their former master, Lord Kelvyn, perished during the attack. His body can be found near the castle gate if you search for it. Remarkably, his demise makes you the new owner of Battlehorn Castle. Cheers, now it’s yours!
Upgrading the Castle
From the outset, Battlehorn Castle is respectable but lacks many of its essential items. Fortunately, Lord Kelvyn’s Will guides you to retrieve them. Your mission is to head to the Imperial City and find Nilphas Omellian. He can be located at the Merchants Inn within the Market District. We have marked his location on the map provided for your convenience.
Upon your encounter with Nilphas Omellian, he’ll extend his congratulations on acquiring the castle. Additionally, he will provide you with a record detailing the improvements planned for the castle. This record includes a brief explanation of the purpose and effects of each upgrade.
Incidentally, you have the option to negotiate and trade with him for purchasing each of the eight upgrades, which typically cost 2500 Gold apiece. However, remember to attempt some bargaining since they can be quite pricey!
How to Get the Dwemer Forge
To obtain the Dwemer Forge upgrade, first, buy any of the other upgrades from Nilphas Omellian. Afterward, go back to Battlehorn Castle and chat with one of the Man-at-Arms stationed there. They will share that Nilphas had proposed building a Dwemer Forge at the castle, and they recommend you purchase it.
At any given moment after that, you can revisit Nilphas Omellian and negotiate with him once more. From then on, he’ll offer you the Battlehorn Dwemer Forge as an upgrade option. In total, there are nine upgrades to acquire, each costing approximately 2500 Gold. Keep in mind that good bargaining skills will be essential if you want to purchase everything!
The Dwemer Forge stands out because it increases your Armorer Skill by 15 when you’re near it. This feature is particularly beneficial during the early stages of the game, as a high Armorer Skill is crucial for fixing up your weapons and armor.
Oblivion Remastered. Don’t forget to maximize its upgrades to make it worthy of a nobleman! Additionally, we suggest taking your time to thoroughly examine the castle, as there are some delightful hidden surprises waiting for you to discover.
