For the highly anticipated movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” the creative team opted for a minimalist strategy in revealing new cast members. During an extended live broadcast, numerous director’s chairs were arranged, each bearing the names of potential actors for the upcoming blockbuster. In addition to familiar faces from the original X-Men trilogy, there was also an intriguing hint that characters from the forthcoming “Thunderbolts” film would reappear. Interestingly, this casting announcement sparked apprehension among a few actors involved in the production.
(*Note: Thunderbolts is not an actual Marvel movie, but I assume you meant to refer to specific characters from that hypothetical film.)
During an interview with ScreenRant, Wyatt Russell (John Walker) and David Harbour (Red Guardian) shared their reactions to finding their names on chairs on set. For Harbour, the gap between chairs was a source of anxiety rather than excitement, as he explained: “Let me tell you, it actually caused me anxiety. Because that chair thing went on for so long, and they paused for 30 minutes.” Despite fans’ anticipation, this prolonged wait actually made Harbour feel uneasy.
For Russell, being uncertain if he was actually part of the movie “Avengers: Doomsday” due to the numerous names involved triggered a different kind of anxiety that resembled PTSD: “It felt like flashbacks. Honestly, I thought, ‘Hold on a minute…’ Since I found out about it later, I’d ask myself, ‘Where is my scene?’ You’d almost blink over your name quickly. Like, ‘Was that me?'” The excitement surrounding the production of “Avengers: Doomsday” even caused the cast to feel a variety of emotions.
The Thunderbolts Will Ride Again in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
In addition to Wyatt Russell and David Harbour receiving their chairs, other actors from the Thunderbolts team, including Florence Pugh, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman, have officially signed on for Avengers: Doomsday. The looming multiversal threat posed by Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom will necessitate a united front of heroes hailing from all corners of the multiverse. This alliance is likely to set the stage for Secret Wars. We can only hope that more details about the roles of Thunderbolts members in Doomsday will be revealed soon, as principal photography is scheduled to start shortly.
Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” directors Joe and Anthony Russo will likely prioritize maximum secrecy about plot points and how the Multiverse Saga concludes. Yet, it’s always exciting to anticipate potential spoilers, whether through an actor’s comment or a set photograph.
The upcoming film, titled “Avengers: Doomsday,” is gearing up to be one of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most daring undertakings yet, and it promises to be a much-anticipated success for Marvel Studios. As the highly anticipated releases of “Thunderbolts” and “Fantastic Four: First Steps” approach, and with the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga on the horizon, it seems that the MCU is revving up to an epic pace.
